Young rifler: Happy to be back on a bigger level
MAD Lions new acquisition refrezh gives his say on his career path so far.
Ismail “refrezh” Ali joined last month MAD Lions, and the young rifler has quickly proven out to be a strong signing. But the road to be where he is now haven’t been straight forward.
Following MAD Lions’ impressive 2-1 victory at IEM Beijing, refrezh gave a post-game interview with the IEM Beijing analyst desk where the Dane explains that he’s really happy to be back on the big stage competing against the world elite, especially doing it with his IGL Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen.
“I wanted to stick together with HooXi and we grinded our way up, just sticking together. Happily, I’m back at a bigger level and I’m really happy that I have done it with HooXi.

refrezh explains how a demotion in the likes of a bench role at Optic was a low period in his career and got him disbelieving on his own abilities and started believing that he wasn’t good enough. However, refrezh describes how taking two steps back and joining a lower-ranked team helped him gain confidence and experience.
”At the end of 2018, I had a stand-in event at Cloud9 which went okay. After that, I got an offer from Optic, and I decided to say yes. Around 6-7 months later I got benched, and I was on the bench for like seven months and it was really hard for me. I really wanted to compete but I took some time off but of course still grinding and playing a lot. Just to find myself as a player again”
MAD Lions’ next match is today at 14:00 (CET) against Dignitas in the prestigious Flashpoint 2.
