Jakob "Jabbi" Nygaard has just been confirmed as the new fifth player on the Heroic roster.

On Heroic's website, the now-former Copenhagen Flames player commented on his move.

Jabbi will replace Ismail "refrezh" Ali, who was benched three days ago.

Ismail “refrezh” Ali’s days as a Heroic member has come to an end with the Norwegian-based organization announcing his departure this Saturday. The 24-year-old rifler joined the Casper “cadiaN” Møller-led team in February last year arriving from MAD Lions.

The news about refrezh’s exit comes only days after a [link:{"url":"https://pley.gg/news/media-heroic-close-signing-with-jabbi","isNewTab":true,"text":"report "}]from TV 2 Sport stating that Heroic is pursuing Copenhagen Flames’ Jakob “Jabbi” Nygaard.

- Since the beginning of this 5-man roster, we have always believed that the team were capable of great things. However, during the last year Heroic has been highly competitive in the major tournaments but has struggled to take that final last step. Therefore, despite all the qualities of refrezh, we have decided that it was time to try something new, Heroic wrote in a statement. 

Furthermore Heroic informed that refrezh will continue to be under contract with the organization.

It's time to initiate the playoff stage at Pinnacle Cup Championships. In the first matchup, we have Heroic taking on the heavy underdogs from Finest in the lower bracket. The favorites will undoubtedly be Casper "cadiaN" Møller's troops despite the Danes having dropped down in the world rankings lately. 

The winner of the match will go up against the loser of the late series between BIG and Astralis at 20:00 (CET) this Friday.

At ESL Pro League Season 14 in a matchup against Liquid, Heroic’s Ismail “refrezh” Ali defied all odds by delivering one of the best plays in CS:GO for a long time – and arguably the best of 2021.

In what looked like an impossible 1v5 situation on Inferno against five Liquid members, refrezh stepped up massively to deny the North Americans’ match point. Liquid was up 15-14 in rounds and had managed to decimate Heroic down to one single man left standing on the deciding map. With five CT players alive in the final round of regulation, the victory was secured for Liquid. The casters were sure, all the viewers were sure, and it also looked like North Americans already had begun celebrating their further advancement at ESL Pro League Season 14.

However, in the next minute of time, something miraculous happened – performed by no other than Ismail “refrezh” Ali.

The crazy clutch seems to have left a quite big and substantial impact on Liquid’s Keith “NAF” Markovic, the fourth player to fall against refrezh in the already iconic play.

In an interview for his recent ‘Top 20 Players of the Year 2021’ honour, NAF touched on the famous 1v5 clutch describing how that exact play had kept him sleepless.

- refrezh' 1v5 was a huge blow, if that happened on LAN, I think I would be haunted by this memory until the end of time, but I believe since it happened online it's been out of my head. I remember the following day I had to go meet my girlfriend's parents for the first time and I remember at about 08:00 when she woke up I told her I never went to bed, I was just lying there for like 9 hours and all I could think of was refrezh 1v5'ing us, NAF said to HLTV.

The best of the rest. That was the expectation for Heroic before the start of BLAST Premier Fall Finals. The Danes are hoping to build upon their good performance at the PGL Major in Stockholm and perhaps challenge NAVI for the title in Copenhagen.

Heroic started their tournament with a matchup against FaZe. Two teams that rarely play each other. The last time was in IEM Cologne, where it was FaZe who came out on top.

At BLAST Premier Fall Finals the match got off to a great start on Mirage. An 8-7 scoreline at the break told the story of a close match, that was decided in the last round, where Rasmus "sjuush" Beck took matters into his own hands with three kills to seal the deal.

Next up was Nuke. A map where Heroic has won the last six out of seven games. But on their T-side, the Danes ran into trouble. Finn "karrigan" Andersen and his men were well prepared and took a solid 9-6 lead with them to the second half, where they established a commanding 13-7 gap on the scoreboard. But then Martin "stavn" Lund came alive. The young Danish rifler was the key architect behind an impressive comeback for Heroic, who won all the remaining rounds of the match. 

A shell-shocked FaZe roster could only see the victory slip out of their hands, but nonetheless, it was an uplifting performance from FaZe, who could still play a part in this tournament. They will face the loser of NAVI vs BIG in the next round, while Heroic in the upper bracket is set up for a huge match against NAVI, if they beat BIG later today.

Today’s Pley of the Day features non-other than Heroic’s refrezh who has been delivering consistent performances lately. In the Quarter-final matchup between Heroic and Virtus.pro at the PGL Major Stockholm, the 23-year-old Dane pulled off an absolutely breathtaking 1v3 clutch to give his team the lead, while also breaking Virtus.pro’s defense in the process.

We have now reached the dire stages of the PGL Major 2021 in Stockholm where only eight teams remain in contention for a spot in the Grand Final and ultimately the Major trophy. Having reached the Quarter-finals we are left with only the best performing teams within the professional CS:GO scene. The first Semi-finalist was to be found between the Danes from Heroic and the CIS machine of Virtus.pro. Heroic were favorites going into the Bo3-series. Whilst it was in no way a one-sided affair, it was ultimately the Danes to take home the victory. With stellar performances on Mirage and Inferno, they secured a 2-1 victory, moved past their opposition, and secured a spot in the Semi-finals of the PGL Major 2021.

The first map was the choice of Virtus.pro and saw the Bo3-series start on Mirage. Despite being one of the most picked and played maps for the side of Virtus.pro, the Danish boys from Heroic are by no means strangers to the map of Mirage. It was also the Danes to get the best start on their CT-side. A strong start that was quickly contested by Virtus.pro, however. After winning six rounds in a row, it looked as if Virtus.pro had completely stunned Heroic. This, however, proved to not be the case, and “cadiaN” and his troops managed to regain control. The second half saw Heroic continue where they had left off. Outpacing the defending Virtus.pro roster they proved the stronger roster on Mirage. At the scoreline of 16-10, it was Heroic to claim the victory in the first map of the Bo3-series.

The second map of the series was to be played on Ancient and was, of course, picked by Heroic. With a win rate of only 20% in their latest five matches, it seemed a difficult task for the otherwise well-oiled CIS machine that is Virtus.pro. Despite their past difficulties with the map of Ancient, it was the Virtus.pro roster, with star AWP’er “Jame” at the forefront of the battle, to end the first half at the scoreline of 8-7 favoring VP. The second half saw Heroic trying to withstand the calculated moves of a T-sided Virtus.pro. With Ancient still being heavily CT-sided, it proved a difficult task for Virtus.pro to break down the defense of Heroic. Despite this, however, “Jame” led his team to victory in one close round after the other in the dying stages of Ancient. Due to risky economical choices from Heroic, it was all of the sudden too late. At the scoreline of 16-13, it was Vitus.pro to take home Ancient and force Inferno as the third and final map.

As mentioned, the third and final map was to be played on Inferno, a map that both teams are known to be incredibly strong on. Just as expected it was as close as possible in the first half of Inferno. With either team refusing to give their opponent an inch and both teams saving every possible penny, it was a back-and-forth half. At the scoreline of 9-6, Heroic were the slight favorites going into the second half of Inferno. The start of the second half was all Heroic as they came flying out of the gate and secured matchpoint at the impressive scoreline of 15-8. Despite a valid comeback attempt from Virtus.pro, it was a matter of time before the Danes secured the final round and claimed the victory. They did exactly that at the scoreline of 16-12 and secured themselves a spot in the Semi-finals of the PGL Major 2021.

The fight for the title as the best Danish CS:GO team was at stake in the match between Heroic and Copenhagen Flames. Astralis's exit earlier today has left the Danish CS:GO throne up for grabs.

First, it looked like Heroic would claim the honors without much resistance. On Nuke it was the two newest additions to the Heroic roster, Ismail 'refrezh' Ali and Rasmus 'sjuush' Beck who led the assault on Copenhagen Flames, that never really had anything going for them in the match. An 11-4 lead at the break was quickly converted to a 16-4 win.

Copenhagen Flames have shown earlier in the Major and at the IEM Fall event, that they have a solid map pool. Ancient is one of them, which Heroic got to experience first hand. Nico 'nicoodoz' Tamjidi was the man of the hour for the Flames, who slowly grinded their way to a map win 16-13. 

The third map was set on Overpass. After losing the pistol, Heroic took the game by the scruff of the neck, winning the next six rounds as CPH struggled to stabilize their defense. Despite the streak, CPH managed to find their right footing towards to end of the half, but Heroic still took the lead, 8-7. Copenhagen Flame didn't put up a dominant enough defense to turn things around, and Heroic secured the map, 16-11.

The Danes from Heroic move to the 1-1 pool of the Legends stage after defeating the Frenchmen from Vitality 16-12 on Overpass. As a result of the loss, Vitality fall down to the 0-2 pool and will be fighting for their tournament lives. The perfect run is now needed for apEX’s troops to make the main stage of the Major.

The first half of Overpass was a hard-fought battle for both of the teams, with the Danes narrowly pulling ahead in the end thanks to refrezh who single handedly took down three opponents on the B bombsite. The second half saw Heroic step up massively on the defense, even though the Frenchmen managed to tie the game at one point, before cadiaN and company went on to close the map with a 16-12 scoreline.

Things are beginning to get intense at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown 2021 event, as we have reached the Semifinals where only four teams are left battling. The first victor was to be found between Heroic and OG. The Danes were slight favorites on paper going into the Bo3-series, however, with very little separating the two teams in terms of results and rankings it seemed destined to be a close affair. Whilst the final 2-0 result doesn’t depict a close series, both maps were intense and could have gone either way. Ultimately, however, it was the Danes to prove themselves as the stronger roster and take home the 2-0 victory against OG.

The first map was the choice of OG and saw the Bo3-series start on Inferno. With Heroic opting to ban Dust 2, the possibility for OG to pick Inferno was left wide open and with a 100% win rate over the past three months, it was no surprise that the European roster chose Inferno as their map pick. Inferno started, as one would have imagined, as close as possible with both teams refusing to give their opponents a chance to run away with a lead. At halftime, the scoreline read 8-7 and Inferno was very much anyone’s map to take home. The second half started with OG as the, seemingly, stronger roster. This, however, soon changed as Heroic shifted into a higher gear and steamrolled through the defense of OG. At the scoreline of 16-12, it was the Danes to take home Inferno and position themselves for a possible 2-0 victory with Overpass coming up.

As mentioned, the second map of the series was to be played on Overpass and was, of course, picked by Heroic. Overpass is one of the Danes’ favorite maps and has become a staple in their strategic arsenal. Known for their quick and crazy rotations, both as T’s and CT’s it is almost impossible to read Heroic when facing them on Overpass. Once again it was OG to come flying out of the gate and gain an early lead over Heroic, however, it didn’t last long. Just as on Inferno it was Heroic to get fired up on their T-side and claw themselves back into a leveled playing field. Things were once again as close as possible as the two teams walked to halftime at the scoreline of 8-7. The second half saw a more dominating Heroic roster silence the T’s strategical approaches and begin to finish what they had started. At the scoreline of 16-11, it was the Danes to secure the 2-0 victory and move past OG at the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown 2021 event.

The last two matches of the BLAST schedule today was: Heroic vs. Dignitas, and Complexity vs. OG. The prize was a semi-final spot in the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown and a chance to get one of the last two remaining spots at the BLAST Premier Fall Final. The other six spots have already been filled by Na'Vi, NIP, Vitality, FaZe, Astralis and BIG.

The first matchup between Heroic and Dignitas was a very close affair, with great team performances from both squads. Though Heroic took the victory 2-0, Dignitas actually had map point on Nuke before being forced into overtime, and eventually defeat.

The second matchup featuring Complexity was a different story on the other hand. Complexity had picked Mirage as their map, and still, OG completely fooled them and cleaned house; 16-0. "mantuu" and "valde" had standout performances with ratings of 2.09 and 1.91. On Complexity's side "blameF" was the only one who managed a rating above 1.0 through the series.

Tomorrow the two last quarter-finals will be played in what is sure to be two great matchups. It's MAD Lions vs. G2 at 3:30 pm, and Liquid vs. Virtus.pro at 6:30 pm.

Copenhagen Flames has been a hot topic in Counter-Strike for the last week or two. The Danish team is currently playing at the prominent IEM Fall, where the underdog team, against all odds, managed to go 5-0 in the group stage, taking down top-tier teams like G2, BIG, and mousesports.

The promising team with the blazing banner may not be known for winning big titles on top of CS:GO – however, the organization has for a long time been renowned as a successful and strong provider of new Danish talents.

In recent years, Copenhagen Flames has brought up promising names like Asger “Farlig” Jensen and Rene “TeSeS” Madsen, who they sold to huge teams in GODSENT and Heroic. The current Heroic profile, Ismail “refrezh” Ali has also been around the team before his big breakthrough.

We talked with the Co-owner of Copenhagen Flames, Daniel Vorborg about the structure of the organization and how committed they are to this current roster. In an ESL press session, Vorborg explains that Flames might change their approach and perception of how to run their org going forward.

- Our dream is not to keep producing talents and then selling them to other organizations. We, of course, also dream of attending Majors, winning Majors, and competing against the best teams in the world. For us, the only path forward right now, is to keep doing more with less, and just stretch that as far we can – That sometimes means we’re selling rosters, but then we will have more capital for the next rebuild, Vorborg stated and added:

- There’s nothing more I would like in this world than to keep this roster. But when teams evolve this fast there’s always a disconnect because the market value and the fair salary for the roster is a lot higher than it was six weeks ago. And in this period, we can’t execute and capitalize on this, in terms of being able to pay twice as much in salary – But yeah, the players are probably worth twice the salary they were worth six weeks ago.

We try our best to keep providing the best resources and salaries for the team – but sometimes it’s not possible to keep up with the evolution of the roster, Vorborg said.

In the same press session held by ESL, we got the opportunity to speak with Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen, CPH Flames’ in-game leader about the org and why he decided to re-join the team 5-months ago.

- It was a no-brainer for me to work with Copenhagen Flames again because they are by far the best organization I have ever played for. I also think its better than Astralis, Heroic, and whoever. I just feel like Flames are doing a way better job with the amount of money and resources they have.  

I do feel like this project and organization is driven entirely by passion. It sounds like a cliché, but it feels like it’s a family to some extent, where everyone is cheering for each other inside the organization.

Copenhagen Flames' masterclass performance and their playoff spot at IEM Fall has meant that the underdog team suddenly are a real contender to grab a ticket for the upcoming Major later this month, even though they entered the last RMR event without a single point in the bank. 

Their next game at IEM Fall will be against the French superstars from Vitality in the quarterfinals. The match is set to be played Thursday at 20.15 (CET).

The crazy clutch happened in the 30th round of Inferno, where Team Liquid was 15-14 ahead on the deciding map having all the odds in their favor with a 5vs1 situation on the B-bombsite. But Heroic had Ismail "refrezh" Ali left on the server, and the Heroic player made the impossible possible with the clutch of the year!

Heroic triumphed in Group A at ESL Pro League with a flawless run. In their last match of the group, they put the icing on the cake by destroying their rivals from Astralis.

On Inferno, it was once again Ismail "refrezh" Ali who guided his team to a comfortable win. With a stellar ace he also found his way into our "Pley of the Day".

While Heroic was already through in first place in Group A at ESL Pro League Season 14, Astralis had everything to play for to try and advance to the knockout stage at the tournament. Astralis had to win, meanwhile, ENCE needed to lose against Bad News Bears to make it happen. None of the things went the way of Astralis tonight.

Since their last encounter at IEM Cologne, the form curve has reversed for the two teams. Astralis introduced a new young AWP'er Philip 'Lucky' Ewald before the tournament leaving Andreas 'Xyp9x' Højsleth out on the bench throughout the whole tournament. A change of roster that has not yet kicked in. At least in a positive way. Today they got exposed by Heroic, who unlike Astralis has kept the roster together since the disappointing showing at Cologne. Back online, Heroic seems invincible right now.

Today it was Ismail 'refrezh' Ali who topped the ratings with some spectacular plays leading his team to a 16-8, 16-8 win on Inferno and Vertigo. With ENCE beating Bad News Bears, the fate of Astralis had already been determined before the end of their match, which only underlined how far Astralis was from qualifying for the next stage. 

With today's results we have found the three teams, that will advance to the next stage.

Heroic's rifler had made the opening kill in the fifth round and followed through with an amazing spraycontrol that took care of the rest of the Astralis team, who lined up perfectly for refrezh.

For almost the entirety of Counter-Strike Global Offensive, it has been Astralis who has been the talk of the town when it comes to being the best Danish roster in CS:GO. However, since August 2020 there has been another Danish team to prove themselves more than capable of competing within the tier one scene. This is, of course, Heroic. Continuing their strong form and yesterday’s success against Bad News Bears, the Danish roster managed to defeat Team Spirit 2-0. With extreme confidence and punishing strategies from Heroic, the CIS roster of Team Spirit had to see themselves bested in just two maps, putting them in danger of ending their ESL Pro League S14 run earlier than expected.

The first map was the pick of Team Spirit and saw the Bo3-series go to Overpass to kick things off. Just as last time the two rosters met Team Spirit opted for Overpass as their map pick against Heroic. And just as the last time they had to see themselves bested against the Danes. Heroic played Overpass with incredible confidence and seemed to get away with every punishing play that they tried against Team Spirit. With Ismail “refrezh” Ali leading the charge, at least in terms of performance, the confidence and quick rotations were too much for Team Spirit to handle and they would have to walk away from Overpass with a 16-8 defeat.

The second map was Heroic's choice and meant a battle on “banana” for the two teams as they headed to Inferno to continue the brawl. Last time the two teams met the Danes opted for Nuke as their map pick, however, without success. This time instead it seems to be a “punish pick” that Heroic has chosen as their map pick. In the past three months (11 games) the side of Team Spirit is sitting on a poor win rate of 18% on Inferno. Whilst Nuke is, without a doubt, a better map for the Danes it seemed as if the strategy was to play on Team Spirit’s weaknesses instead. And the weaknesses of Team Spirit showed. After a strong T-sided half Heroic gained an early lead and closed the first half at 10-5 favoring the Danes. All Heroic had to do on their CT-side of Inferno was to close out what they had started, and they did exactly that. Despite Team Spirit looking stronger in the second half, it was the Danes to walk away with the victory at 16-9.

We are now 10 days deep into Flashpoint 3, and it's fair to say that the prominent tournament hasn't disappointed! - Quite the contrary, in fact. 

The prestigious Major Qualifier hold vital RMR points for the upcoming PGL Major in Stockholm, which means that every team will do anything to grab a top spot at the event. Along the way, we have seen upsets, highly controversial disputes, but most importantly - We have seen the very best players from the CS:GO landscape in action.
