Entropiq defeat BIG to secure Grand Final spot
NickelBack and company set up rematch against Gambit following a stellar comeback against BIG.
An impressive comeback on the decider on Nuke led Entropiq to a stunning 2-1 win over Berlin International Gaming (BIG) in today’s consolidation final at the $250.000 event. The result means Entropiq will go up against Gambit in the Grand Final at 17.30 (CET).
Dust2
We could see the Bo3 series kick off on Dust2 being BIG’s map pick. The iconic map has for a long time been dubbed “AWPers paradise” due to the powerful sniper rifle and its favourable condition with a lot of long and open spaces all over the map.
And it was exactly these AWPers from both teams who ended up being the highlight players in the first map. The duel between Florian “syrsoN” Rische from BIG and Entropiq’s Aleksei “El1an” Gusev proved to be an extremely fierce duel, as the two star players went head-to-head time after time.
syrsoN vs El1an on Dust2 | Head-to-Head
4-10 kills / 1-5 AWP duels
El1an might have won the individual duel against syrsoN, however, it was the German who ended on top of the general scoreboard, but most importantly also on the winning side as BIG grabbed the win on Dust2 after a close 16-13 battle.
Mirage
The close battle continued on Mirage as BIG and Entropiq followed each other in the first half. After the Russians won the pistol round, it was BIG’s turn to take the lead through some nice calls by IGL Johannes “tabseN” Wodarz - A lead which shifted hands several times upon Entropic’s 8-7 half time lead.
Despite the close fight before the switch, Entropiq began to run away as they won the second pistol round and the following four rounds. The only thing that could stop Aleksei 'NickelBack' Trofimov and his troops were a technical pause – which was exactly what happened.
Due to two Entropiq players disconnecting from the server at the 15-12 scoreline, the game was paused for no more than 45 minutes. After the long break, the two sides kick-started the match again starting at 15-13. It only lasted one minute because of a great B hold by Entropiq, which saw the Russians even the map score at 1-1.
Nuke
Three hours after the initial round, the deciding map could start. Here the experienced Germans, led by tabseN, displayed their big routine and showed why they have been a consistent top-tier team for several years. Through a stellar CT side followed by a great offense in the second half, BIG could see themselves go up 13-4. Despite having the victory right around the corner, BIG didn’t manage to close out the series as their lead began to crumble round after round. BIG’s collapse was cemented in the end the very last round of regulation after a dramatic round which ended with a vital 1v2 clutch to seal the 16-14 victory.
