First, he was in. Then he was out. Now he is back again. All within two years. Patrick "es3tag" Hansen was announced today as the replacement for Hampus "hampus" Poser, who was kicked from the team today. The former Astralis, Cloud9, Complexity, and Heroic player rejoins the roster after having been benched for the entirety of 2023.

On Twitter, the General Manager of Ninjas in Pyjamas, Björn "THREAT" Pers elaborated on the roster move. 

- Hampus has been an integral part of NIP since he joined in 2020, and we have gone through both good and bad times. Now, NIP needs a change of direction, and hard decisions have to be made. After a lot of evaluation, we came to the conclusion that our first step would require Hampus moving to the bench. I am certain that he will bring value wherever he goes and will be a formidable opponent in the future! It is also with excitement that I can announce that es3tag has been brought back to the main roster! Patrick is a very unique player being able to always provide what the team needs, even bringing the AWP back in 2022. No matter the task he always brings a huge amount of contagious positive energy that we in NIP will make sure to harness as we enter the CS2 era.

Björn "THREAT" Pers himself was hired as the new GM for NIP a month ago, and he already stated that changes were imminent to the team. THREAT has previously been the head coach for NIP and also worked as a Counter-Strike Technical Director for the team.

According to Swedish GM, there will be more changes announced soon. Until then Patrick "es3tag" Hansen will take over the role of in-game leader.

It is the second time that Hampus "hampus" Poser has been benched on NIP. The first time was at the start of the year when the 24-year-old Swede had to take a break from competitive competition due to medical conditions.

Ninjas in Pyjamas

Ninjas in Pyjamas have ended the speculations about the future of the roster with the announcement of Hampus "hampus" Poser's return to the lineup.

The 24-year-old Swede will take over the reins as the in-game leader for the team replacing Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen. The Finn joined the roster in September 2022 but will now be moved to the bench after just nine months on the team.

Earlier this month Hampus "hampus" Poser announced that he was ready to return to competitive CS:GO after spending time on the sideline due to health reasons since January. 

The return of hampus marks the ninth roster move that NIP has made since Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz joined the team in April 2021.

Hampus "hampus" Poser has been sidelined for the majority of 2023 due to health reasons. Back in January Ninjas in Pyjamas released a statement explaining the decision. 

- Hampus has spent the last few days consulting with our performance director Troels and medical professionals, and we've agreed that he needs a break from competition. In order to ensure that he has the time and space needed to get well, Hampus will take the rest of the spring season off with our full support.

But now it seems like the former in-game leader is ready to compete again.

The Swede retweeted an article from HLTV, where his agency spoke about his return. The biggest question now is, where Hampus "hampus" Poser will play in the future. He is still contracted to NIP, who will now have to figure out if they want to keep him on the team. In his place Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke has played 84 maps with a rating of 1.05.

Ninjas in Pyjamas have issued a statement this Wednesday informing that Hampus “hampus” Poser will be out of competition for an undisclosed period of time. The Swedish organization explains that it’s due to “unforeseen personal circumstances” that hampus now is set to take a break.

Max “maxster” Jansson, an 18-year-old rifler from NIP’s academy team Young Ninjas, has been appointed as the replacement for hampus, they revealed in the statement. Furthermore, the iconic organization explains that we can expect an update on the situation prior to the start of IEM Katowice Play-ins next week.

The duo also spoke a little bit about their AWP situation within the roster as the team was left with no primary AWPer after Nicolai “device” Reedtz announced his return to his former team Astralis. After the 27-year-old Danish AWPer left the team, the AWP role fell upon Fredrik “REZ” Sterner, who always has been a rifler during his career.

When Ninjas in Pyjamas last month announced the signing of Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen it resulted in a demotion for Hampus “hampus” Poser, who saw his in-game leader role be taken away from him and placed on the shoulders of the newly arrived Finn.

Something that would seem like a negative thing for some people - But not in this case, hampus explains in a [link:{"url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE6kgvRVv5k","isNewTab":true,"text":"video"}] on NIP’s YouTube channel.

- Having Aleksib join the team feels super nice. It means that I’m not the in-game leader anymore, which I’m very happy about. I mean I want to be an IGL, but I also do not want to be the IGL. I’m just happy that after being at NIP for two something years, it feels good to try something new.

NIP teammate and fellow Swede, Frederik “REZ” Sterner is also pleased with Aleksib’s arrival, pointing towards his leadership approach, which is commonly known as a very structured style with Aleksib micromanaging his troops.

- I think Aleksib is going to bring a lot of stability, structure and a lot of protocols, like really set in stone in how we are going to approach and play the game. I really like that, REZ says in the video.

Ninjas in Pyjamas arrive at IEM Rio Major in fine form, with the Swedish squad having experienced an impressive start with their new-look roster. After the former G2 IGL Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen joined the pack, NIP has won five matches in a row only giving up one map against Cloud9.

What to expect from Ninjas in Pyjamas at the Brazilian Major is a tough question to answer. If they could field their superstar AWPer Nicolai “device” Reedtz, things would look a lot different for the Ninjas. With Frederik “REZ” Sterner on the AWP instead of his usual rifle, NIP have to rely much on their star player in Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin.

NIP’s best result this year is their first place at Global Esports Tour Dubai where they defeated MOUZ in the Grand Final to secure the $100.000 1st price. That is the only Grand Final appearance from the Swedes in 2022, if you take away their recent win at the lower-tier Svenska Cuppen.

Ninjas in Pyjamas are 1-0 up after Day 1 of the Road to Rio qualifier in Malta.

Against Astralis on Nuke, NIP put together two good series of round wins in both the first and second half to seal the win against Astralis. The Danes played their first match with Mikkel "MistR" Thomsen on the roster as a replacement for the injured Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke. The young Astralis talent had a rough time, but contributed with a couple of opening kills to try and help his teammates. 

Down 10-5 at the break it was an uphill battle for Astralis in the second half, where NIP managed to seal the win 16-12. Hampus 'hampus' Poser looked very solid in his new role dropping 30 kills, while the new in-game leader Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen made some great calls.

In the penultimate Bo3-series at BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2022, a Scandinavian brawl of the highest caliber was established as Ninjas in Pyjamas and Heroic locked horns and entered the server. Both teams were in dire need of a victory today in order of them leaving the event satisfied and with a ticket to the upcoming BLAST Premier Fall Finals event. On paper, the brawl between Heroic and NiP could go any direction, however, once the battle had begun it became clear that one team was slightly superior to the other. Despite a close affair on all three maps, it was ultimately NiP who managed to run away with the victory ahead of the Danes of Heroic. 

As mentioned the first map of the Bo3-series took place on Inferno and was picked by the Ninjas in Pyjamas. In addition to being the most successful map for the Ninjas in the past three months, it is also one of Heroic's worst-performing maps as of late. In other words, the Danes had a tough challenge ahead of them, a challenge that, albeit difficult, was attacked with confidence by "cadiaN" and his troops. Not much separated the two rosters in the first half of Inferno as they traded rounds and ultimately switched sides at the scoreline of 8-7. The Scandinavian brawl continued in the second half as it had played out in the first, incredibly close. Despite "stavn" putting up another great individual performance it wasn't enough for the Danes to get across the finish line and at the scoreline of 16-14, it was the Ninjas in Pyjamas who were able to walk away with the victory. 

The second map of the Bo3-series was, of course, picked by Heroic which meant a trip to Mirage. Being the most played map in professional CS:GO history, it is a map that most teams have had their fair share of games on, these two included. With momentum carrying over from Inferno, NiP started Mirage the strongest and posted a great CT-sided half which resulted in a slight lead going into the second half at 8-7. What was close combat between the two rosters quickly became one-sided as Heroic's CT-side proved too difficult for the Ninjas to break down. A hyped "cadiaN" lead his team to victory on Mirage at the scoreline of 16-9. 

The Heroic victory on Mirage meant a third and final map for the Bo3-series to find its victor and what map more fitting as a decider between NiP and Heroic than Overpass. Overpass is a map that both teams have been incredibly strong on and to some extent still are. Despite starting on their arguably weaker side as the T's, "hampus" and his troops seemed eager to get things rolling as their aggressive and creative executives put Heroic through trouble. At 10-5, the Danes had everything to do in the second half of Overpass. As expected, Heroic were met by a strong defense from NiP, and with everyone from the Ninjas stepping up to the plate, it was too much for the Heroic roster to handle. At the scoreline of 16-7 the Scandinavian brawl concluded with NiP as the victors.

Things are getting more and more intense at the ongoing BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2022 event, as the first to be eliminated from the single elimination bracket has already been found. Joining Complexity and leaving the event would either be NiP or Evil Geniuses as they met in a battle for survival. Whilst it was a tumultuous affair with both teams looking great in different periods of the Bo3-series, it was ultimately NiP to secure the victory and avoid elimination from the event. 

The first map of the brawl took place on Nuke and was picked by Evil Geniuses. A close first half saw the two teams go to halftime with a close scoreline of 8-7, slightly favoring the Ninjas. Whilst the first half had been a close affair, the second half was anything but that. With "hampus" proving why he is considered one of the most impactful IGL's in CS:GO, the Scandinavian roster of NiP cruised through EG on their T-side. Failing to secure a single CT-sided round, EG had to see themselves bested on their own map pick of Nuke at the scoreline of 16-7. 

Whilst the CT-side of EG on Nuke had been a poor one, to say the least, the North-American-based roster didn't fail to deliver on their CT-side of Overpass. Despite being the pick of NiP it was Evil Geniuses to come flying out of the gate and secure an instrumental 13-2 lead going into the second half of Overpass. Something spectacular was needed from the Ninjas in order to close out the brawl between themselves and EG in just two maps. Whilst they have been known to pull off some incredible comebacks in their time, a comeback from 13-2 on Overpass seemed too much to ask for, and it was. Despite NiP clawing back a handful of rounds, it was ultimately EG to close out Overpass at the scoreline of 16-7. 

The third and final map of the Bo3-series between NiP and EG came to be Inferno. Known to be the ultimate third map in any great Bo3-series, it seemed the perfect place to find our victory in the brawl. A strong CT-sided half meant a 9-6 lead for the Ninjas going into the second half of the map. A lead that was instantly nullified by EG, following a strong CT-sided start. Going back and forth and trading rounds, the Scandinavians ultimately proved stronger as they secured the victory at the scoreline of 16-11.

Evil Geniuses

After a three-day break from competition at BLAST Premier Fall Groups, the action is set to return this Thursday. The tournament will feature three matches today with all of them being knockout series where the loser is sent down to BLAST Fall Showdown, while the winner will proceed to the next round.

OG and Complexity will kick things off today when the two teams clashes at 13:00 (CET). You can find the schedule and match stream down below.

We are finally here. The IEM Cologne 2022 main event is underway and after an exciting Play-In event we have all 16 teams ready to go head-to-head in the $972.000 LAN-event in Cologne, Germany. To kick things off at IEM Cologne 2022, a Scandinavian brawl between Ninjas in Pyjamas and Heroic took place in Group A. After a very successful run at the Play-In event, Heroic were expected to take home the victory when the two rosters faced each other. Once the Bo3-series got underway, however, a different pattern became apparent. Instead, it was the Swedish-based NiP roster who proved more resilient and who were able to walk away from the battle with a victory under their belt and a spot in the upper semi-finals of their group. 

The first map of the Bo3-series took place on Ancient and was picked by the Danes of Heroic. Sharing many of the same strong maps with NiP, the choice for the Danes was a hard one. Perhaps surprisingly, Heroic opted for Ancient as their map pick, the worst-performing map for the Danish roster. In the past three months, Heroic have only found success on Ancient 40% of the times they have played it (5 maps). Whilst NiP have struggled recently on Ancient it is a map that they have picked in the past, and it showed. The first half of Ancient was neck and neck with little separating the two teams. At the scoreline of 8-7, the two rosters switched sides with things as close as possible. The second half of Ancient continued in a close fashion, however, with "hampus" leading his offense by example, it was the Ninjas in Pyjamas who could ultimately claim victory at the scoreline of 16-13. 

The second map of the Scandinavian brawl took place on Inferno and was, of course, picked by NiP. Inferno is a map that both rosters are incredibly strong on and could have picked as their map pick. After a close battle on Ancient, it seemed as if another close brawl was definitely on the cards for Inferno. And close it was. Carrying over the theme from Ancient, NiP posted an incredible performance on their T-side of Inferno as well. Thanks to great mid-round calls from the Swedish IGL "hampus", NiP were able to go to halftime with a 10-5 lead. The second half saw a Heroic roster finally wake up and bring the fight to the Swedes. Things were just about as close as possible between the two rosters, however, ultimately it was the Ninjas in Pyjamas to prove more resilient in the dying stages of Inferno. At the scoreline of 16-13 NiP managed to close out Inferno, secure a 2-0 victory against the Danes of Heroic, and get off to a great start at IEM Cologne 2022.

We have probably all had the thought, how difficult can it be to play Counter-Strike as a professional? Well, the answer to that question is that it is very difficult. Like any other sport or profession, it takes many hours of perfecting the craft for a player to reach the highest level of competition. It is not all about clicking on heads. To become a professional CS:GO player you need drive, passion, talent, and much more. 

A beautiful documentary made by CS:GO tournament organizers BLAST Premier showcases just how tough a journey players must take to become the absolute best. Besides talent on the server, it takes a certain mentality, winners are born not made. Take a look at how "REZ", "hampus", and "mantuu" managed to become professional CS:GO players as well as what it takes to stay at the top once you have climbed your way to success:

Hampus "hampus" Poser has been ruled out for IEM Dallas because of illness, so Erik "ztr" Gustafsson from the Swedes' academy team will be standing in. 

This is not the first time that "ztr" will be joining the main Ninjas squad, as the 18-year-old played 58 maps with them last year.

The first quarter-final saw NIP take on FaZe. The two battled it out through three very different maps.

The Bo3 kicked off on FaZe's pick of Nuke, a brave choice considering that NIP had very recently reamed FURIA with a fantastic CT side.

The first half started out great for the Ninjas who went up 5-0. From this point, FaZe started finding success, and the half ended decently close at 9-6, despite NIP looking in control most of the time, especially with a solid performance from "Plopski" on the A-site.

As FaZe turned to the CT side, they dominated from start to finish only allowing the Ninjas to get one round and no other bomb plants. Much of the credit through this map had to go to the two veterans of the team "rain", and "karrigan", who were responsible for a large percentage of overall and opening kills.

After the disappointing T side on Nuke, the Ninjas performed far better on their own pick of Overpass. Leading the attacks for the Swedes were "Brollan" and "hampus" who regularly found holes in the defense and exploited them to perfection. NIP had seven rounds at halftime.

The second half was almost as close as the first but after 29 rounds of play, the duo of "Brollan" and "hampus" had led their team to victory.

On the defense in the third and final map of Inferno, it was once again "Brollan" and "hampus" that was doing the heavy lifting for the Ninjas who took a solid 8-3 lead. Unfortunately for the Swedes, FaZe had a late half resurgence which meant they only had a single-round lead at halftime.

As FaZe turned to the CT side they made an almost identical repeat of Nuke. They once again completely shut out the Ninjas, the difference however was that this time it was the young star-trio of "ropz", "Twistzz", and "broky" that broke the dreams of the Swedes. FaZe grabbed every single second-half round and are bound for the semi-finals!

The long-standing Fnatic rifler Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin completed his transfer to NIP last month, joining forces with the promising Swedish trio of REZ, hampus, and Plopski.

We got the opportunity to speak with the NIP roster at an ESL press session, before the playoffs at ESL Pro League Season 15. Here we asked the captain and IGL Hampus “hampus” Poser about his thoughts on the Brollan signing and what he adds to the roster.

- I have wanted to play with him ever since he left me in Red Reserve all these years back. Getting to play with him again, is almost a dream coming true. Brollan is a very aggressive player and likes to take initiative – he’s the best player in Sweden, so it’s nice to get him, hampus said.

NIP is currently competing in ESL Pro League Season 15, where they have managed to qualify for the quarterfinals. Here hampus and company will take on Liquid in a fierce Bo3 series this Thursday at 19:00 (CET). 

Despite having completed his move, Brollan will have to wait to make his official debut due to the 19-year-old Swede not being registered.

At BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2022 it was Ninjas in Pyjamas against BIG, who fought each other in a BO1 match. As always the drama started before the match with the all-important veto. This time around the two teams found Overpass as a common ground after having excluded all other options. Initially, it looked like a good idea for BIG, who started best and could take a 8-7 lead at the break.

In the second half of Overpass, Ninjas in Pyjamas managed to win the match with a 16-12 win. The MVP of the match was hampus, who delivered a good performance with an ADR of 100.2.

- It was not supposed to be like this! The words from the commentators of the match between Ninjas in Pyjamas and Entropiq told the tale of an unusual one-sided match that was supposed to be an all-even affair.

The blowout started on Nuke, where NIP managed to win 10 rounds in a row to completely shut down Entropiq on their own map pick.

The Swedish Ninjas only gave 11 rounds away yesterday against Fnatic, but today they had the opportunity to do it even better after winning Nuke 16-5 and going up 12-3 on Overpass in the first half. NIP won the map 16-7 and is now 2-0 in Group A, while Entropiq is 1-1. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow.

Three and half months and several events later, hampus touched on the matter again in a post-match interview after NIP’s 2-0 victory against Fnatic at ESL Pro League Season 15, praising es3tag for his improvement with the Swedish language.

- It has improved a lot. es3tag is such a high IQ person, if you want to teach him something – he will learn it. He’s just a super-fast learner. There are still some problems sometimes in super-tight situations, but it’s not as often as before, at all. I’m very happy about how fast he has learned Swedish.

Hampus also talked about NIP’s next challenge in Group A at ESL Pro League.

- I’m hoping for a 2-0 against Entropiq of course, but they are a very good team and we have played them before. And I think we won last time. But they are a very good team and they have very strong players, so both teams can win, Hampus concludes.

es3tag, hampus and the rest of NIP will take on Entropiq at 16:00 (CET) this Thursday, where they are set to build on their great start at the $823.000 tournament.
