Several new lineups got their first taste of CS2 action at the open qualifiers tournament for the PGL Copenhagen Major. 

Among them was Heroic, where Guy "NertZ" Iluz, Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi, and Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski made a good first impression as the trio debuted with four straight victories. The round of 128 win against Sprout was especially impressive with Heroic only dropping two rounds during the match.

Another new lineup we saw the first glimpse of was PARIVISION. An early defeat at the hands of the unknown lineup of Galaxy Gaming saw Robert "Patsi" Isyanov and Artem "ArtFr0st" Kharitonov eliminated in the round of 258. A disappointing first showing from the CIS team, that on paper looks like a potential Major participant.

The English Organization has begun the process of rebuilding their roster after the departure of Dion "FASHR" Derksen and the benching of Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi.

The Danish AWP'er joined the team in June 2022, where he and Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen were bought from Copenhagen Flames. The team showed promising signs, but in the big events Fnatic always seemed to miss out on the playoff spots.

Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi has a 1.07 rating during the last 12 months on Fnatic. There are no news about his replacement, but looking at the market right now, there are plenty of options to go for. Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov, Ighor "w0nderful" Zhdanov, and Florian "syrsoN" Rische are just some of the AWP'ers, who are ready to move on to a new home at the moment.

In a close match that ended in an overtime thriller fnatic was the team to edge past the IEM Rio Major winners from Outsiders. In a 2-1 victory the mixed European team secured themselves the perfect start at the IEM Katowice main event. 

22-year-old nicoodoz couldn't see in difference in Outsiders playstyle despite their recent roster change with Aleksandr "KaiR0N-" Anashkin replacing David "n0rb3r7" Daniyelyan.

- Honestly not really, I feel like they played exactly the same way that they used to. They played really passive and super-backed they just let the time run out and then you slowly get more scared of every possibility.

Outsiders

It was an unlikely hero that had to step in for BIG, as the Germans prevailed and won their Round 2 match against FURIA at IEM Katowice. Nils 'k1to' Gruhne, who previously has been benched and then promoted to the first team again, played two incredible maps to secure his team the win.

It was initially FURIA who had the upper hand in the match winning BIG’s map pick of Anubis. But that didn’t last long. BIG won Mirage and Ancient 16-9, 16-9 to seal the win and a spot in the main event at IEM Katowice. On both of the last maps, it was on the T-side that k1to impressed. On Ancient he dropped 23 kills during the 15 rounds in the first half to give BIG a huge push toward the victory.

FURIA will need to win on Friday when they face the winner of paiN vs IHC in the lower bracket. The winner advances to the main stage of IEM Katowice.

In the last match of the day, OG came out on top against fnatic. The game was much similar to the BIG vs FURIA match. fnatic started out winning Overpass but then fell apart on Mirage and Inferno. Both times it was their CT side that let them down winning only five CT rounds in total in the last two maps. Excellent calling from Nemanja 'nexa' Isaković combined with the impressive firepower, that OG can display on the server made the difference on a day, where fnatic greatly missed the impact from their AWP’er Nico 'nicoodoz' Tamjidi.

fnatic is back on the server Friday, where they face the winner of Grayhound vs MIBR.

Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi and the rest of fnatic took down BIG in the 2-1 pool of the IEM Rio Major Legends Stage, defeating the German squad with a 2-0 result to secure their ticket to the playoffs.

fnatic’s Danish AWPer joined us for a post-match interview in Rio, where we spoke about their victory, fnatic’s recent results at events, his expectations for the Champions Stage, and more. With no pressure on their shoulders, fnatic could perhaps be a contender for the title? Well, if you ask the 22-year-old Dane, everything is possible in Rio!

He thinks that if he and the rest of the squad can play at their top level, they will be able to win the Major.

As well as the ongoing Roobet Cup 2022 event, there is another great event that is slowly but surely reaching its conclusion. Battling for a spot in the Grand Final of REPUBLEAGUE Season 3 was fnatic and Bad News Eagles. fnatic have been struggling for quite some time, however, with the roster overhaul they have just had at fnatic, something exciting might come from the Swedish CS:GO organization in the near future. For now, fnatic fans across the globe can enjoy the fact that their team has made to the Grand Finals of REPUBLEAGUE Season 3. 

One of fnatic's five players "nicoodoz" definitely gave us something to be exciting about when battling in the Semi-finals against Bad News Bears. In a dire round on Ancient with money being something fnatic could only wish for and lesser weaponry in the hands of their players, "nicoodoz" managed to turn a round that seemed almost impossible to a victory for fnatic. Hiding in the back of the bombsite, "nicoodoz" awaited the perfect time to pounce. With nothing but a Desert Eagle, the Dane managed to take down three opponents, before picking up an AK-47 and collecting the final kill of the round - take a look: 

Frederik "roeJ" Jørgensen and Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi recently joined the lineup of fnatic after having played with the Copenhagen Flames for more than a year. The roster move saw the Danes go international after having been playing on a fully Danish team, but the language on the server was not the only thing that changed. 

Daniel "Vorborg" Vorborg revealed in an interview with content creator "Ne0Kai" that the Danes' salary was doubled five times over after changing organizations, and that this was one of the reasons that they decided to jump ship.

This week Fnatic announced the first signings of their rebuild with the transfer of Fredrik “roeJ” Jørgensen and Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi. However, the Swedes didn’t manage to find a fifth member before the start of Pinnacle Cup Championships, which meant that Patrick “f0rest”Lindberg had to stand in at the $250.000 event.

Mezii’s side from fnatic got off to a great start at the Pinnacle Cup Championship with their new players in nicoodoz and roeJ, as well as f0rest who is standing in. The team took down tournament favorites Heroic 16-14 on Overpass in the group stage’s opening match. Fnatic’s KRiMZ topped the scoreboard at the end of the match with 22 kills and 17 deaths, while nicoodoz also delivered a good performance against his fellow countrymen with a rating of 1.21 and 20 kills.

The fnatic roster can now rest until tomorrow when they have to play against the winner between BIG and MIBR for a spot in the playoffs’ upper bracket final,while Heroic will have to play an elimination bo3 series against the loser of the match today at 17:00 (CET). The Danes are required to get two victories to make it to the playoffs’ lower bracket.

Following the news about today’s transfer, Fnatic co-owner and Chief Gaming Director, Patrik “cArn” Sättermon also touched on the last remaining spot on the roster.

- When it comes to the fifth member, we’re still in the last-stage trials. Meanwhile, also keeping a close eye on the transfer market. So as soon as we’re done with that, you guys will be the first to know, Sättermon stated. 

At the looks of things, it's an in-game leader Fnatic has to find to round off their new roster. Unless they decide to give the IGL-duties to an experienced player like KRIMZ. Copenhagen Flames’ powerful duo Nico "⁠nicoodoz⁠" Tamjidi and Fredrik "⁠roeJ⁠" Jørgensen has completed their move to Fnatic, the Danish organization confirms on Twitter. Here they will join forces with KRIMZ and mezii with the last remaining member still being unknown. 

In the statement, Copenhagen Flames also explains that they will be looking to find new homes for HooXi, jabbi and Zyphon. Furthermore, the org described its plans and mindset going forward after today's news about the many departures.

The Swedes from Fnatic are currently in a rebuilding phase with KRIMZ and mezii being the only two active players on the roster. However, there could very well be some interesting names joining the iconic team in the near future.

According to the CS:GO insider Aleksey "OverDrive" Biryukov, who has reported a series of big transfers in the past, Fnatic is set to sign “a minimum of two players” from Copenhagen Flames. By looking at the Fnatic roster and what they lack right now and what CPH Flames can offer, the 21-year-old AWPer Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi should be a great pick up and a no-brainer due to his impressive form in 2022 and his big potential.

After seeing FaZe and Spirit secure their spots in the semis yesterday, ENCE and Copenhagen Flames now had to try to do the same. When the two faced each other earlier in the tournament the Flames took a dominant 16-8 victory in a Bo1, but things would not go as smoothly for the Danes this time.

The Bo3 kicked off on the Flames' pick of Vertigo, where the Danes looked solid to start. They were getting entries and had good spacing on the map, but at the scoreline 3-3 their T side started going down the drain. ENCE completely shut them down, and while "Spinx" was playing very well, the real story was the tremendous defensive work "dycha" did in difficult situations. This led ENCE on a nine-round streak, and to a 12-3 halftime lead.

It looked much better for the Flames as they turned to the CT side. The young duo of "Zyphon" and "jabbi" was doing some heavy lifting for the team, but the halftime deficit was too hard to overcome for the Danes and ENCE were now halfway there.

"roeJ" and "nicoodoz" who were surprisingly absent on Vertigo had a much better start to Nuke. They stepped up individually very early on and as the rest of the team soon followed suit the Flames took a 9-3 lead. ENCE found a bit of flow towards the end of the half and reduced the Danes' lead to three at halftime.

"hades", who had been the lowest-rated ENCE player at this tournament so far, woke up as his team took to the CT side. He was excellently holding down the fort in Yard and around the Garage. This was one of the major factors in what was a lockdown defensive half for ENCE where the Flames were only allowed three rounds before it was all said and done.

With the win, ENCE secure a spot in the semi-final where they will be facing the winner of the Na'Vi/Heroic matchup.

It was Ancient time in the second-round matches between FaZe - Bad News Eagles and Copenhagen Flames against ENCE.

For FaZe it was redemption time after having lost the opening match at the event. The current number one team in the world had absolutely no problems against Bad News Eagles. The Balkan roster only managed to win four rounds during the encounter, whereas the entire FaZe roster just seemed to be on another level.

Bad News Eagles drop down to the 0-2 category, where they need to win their next three matches to qualify. FaZe is now 1-1 in the tournament. Both teams play tomorrow.

Both Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen and Nico 'nicoodoz' Tamjidi delivered excellently to put Copenhagen Flames into the 2-0 category with a superb and impressive victory.

The Copenhagen Flames are done at BLAST after just one match. They did their best and forced ENCE to go all three maps, but in the end, it was simply not enough.

The Bo3 kicked off on Copenhagen Flames’ pick of Overpass where ENCE got off to a great start with a 6-0 lead on the CT-side. “roeJ” and “jabbi” did their best to pull the Flames back into contention, but the first half ended with ENCE being up by 11-4.

The Danes had an opportunity to make a comeback as they had a bit of success in the second half but were not quite able to find the answers to ENCE’s explosive T-side.

The action continued on ENCE’s pick of Mirage, where the Flames came in with a hunger for blood and revenge. The Danes, on the CT-side, seemed to have found their form after the shaky first map and were playing much better both as a team and individually. They led by five rounds at the break.

ENCE looked better after the break but were not able to completely put a stop to the Flames, who with a lot of fast hits found small gaps in the defense to exploit, and they closed the map at 16-10.

The deciding map of the series was Ancient, and right from the get-go “Snappi” and “Spinx” were glowing hot on the CT-side. The two got a lot of kills early on in the rounds which meant that ENCE got to play a lot of rounds where they were a man up. Flames were down by five rounds at halftime.

It was starting to look good for the Flames as they had arrived on the CT-side, but unfortunately for them, they were playing against “Spinx” who continued tearing his way through everything and everyone to win the game at 16-9.

The chance to secure a major spot was on the line when the Copenhagen Flames ran into NIP.

With the first map pick, the CPH Flames decided to take the fight to Vertigo.

With a 75% winrate on the map, the Danes enjoyed a nice start as they went 3-0. Three rounds were the maximum distance between the teams in the first half, as the two could not seem to put together massive streaks. The Ninjas led by a single round at halftime.

Coming in with the lead, the Ninjas kept applying pressure on the Danish squad. The Flames, down 14-10, started a small comeback but had to concede match point to the Ninjas after a massive blunder from “nicoodoz”, who had otherwise played a stellar map. Luckily, this wasn’t match-deciding as the Danes took the last two rounds of regulation and pushed the map into OT, where they would go on to win 19-17.

After a disappointing loss on map 1, the Ninjas moved on to their map pick of Overpass where a 9-0 “Brollan” led his team to a 3-0 lead. The Danes answered back in style with an 11-1 run, where “jabbi” forcefully took over the title as the overwhelming top-fragger.

The Flames quickly found themselves two rounds away from making the major, but surprisingly the tag-team of “Brollan” and “es3tag” started making life harder for the Danes. The Swedes managed to pull it all the way back to 14-10 before the Danes shut them down and ended the game at 16-10.

In a forcebuy round from Copenhagen Flames, nicoodoz dished up with goodies, as the Dane delivered an insane ace in the second round of the map. Copenhagen Flames won the match against Sinners and got off to a great start on the Swiss stage.

After both winning their first game, Copenhagen Flames, and SINNERS now had to do battle against each other for the chance to go 2-0. The brawl took place on Overpass, a curious pick considering that it was statistically the worst map in the pool for the Czechs.

SINNERS comfortably secured the T-side pistol round but were quickly shot down by the aimbot-like performance of "nicoodoz" and his scout. This was the start of an oppressing streak for the Flames, which saw them take a 7-1 lead. SINNERS did manage to pick up a few rounds in the middle of the half where they actually looked pretty solid, but "jabbi" equipped with an AK-47 made sure that the Danes had a commanding 11-4 lead at halftime.

"beastik" and co. looked better as they switched to the CT-side, but the enormous round deficit was just too much to overcome and the Danes close the game at 16-9.

With the win the Flames become the third team to go 2-0, while SINNERS have to try their luck in the 1-1 bracket.

The fight for the title as the best Danish CS:GO team was at stake in the match between Heroic and Copenhagen Flames. Astralis's exit earlier today has left the Danish CS:GO throne up for grabs.

First, it looked like Heroic would claim the honors without much resistance. On Nuke it was the two newest additions to the Heroic roster, Ismail 'refrezh' Ali and Rasmus 'sjuush' Beck who led the assault on Copenhagen Flames, that never really had anything going for them in the match. An 11-4 lead at the break was quickly converted to a 16-4 win.

Copenhagen Flames have shown earlier in the Major and at the IEM Fall event, that they have a solid map pool. Ancient is one of them, which Heroic got to experience first hand. Nico 'nicoodoz' Tamjidi was the man of the hour for the Flames, who slowly grinded their way to a map win 16-13. 

The third map was set on Overpass. After losing the pistol, Heroic took the game by the scruff of the neck, winning the next six rounds as CPH struggled to stabilize their defense. Despite the streak, CPH managed to find their right footing towards to end of the half, but Heroic still took the lead, 8-7. Copenhagen Flame didn't put up a dominant enough defense to turn things around, and Heroic secured the map, 16-11.

One month ago nobody talked about Copenhagen Flames as a potential outsider for the PGL Major title in Stockholm. Some of the players on the roster did not even know, that they had the chance to qualify for the Major, when the team arrived for IEM Fall at the end of September. Just being there was a big thing for the Organization, which has always been grinding the lower tiers in the scene, where young Danish talents have had the opportunity to be nurtured before bigger teams came calling.

But the team surprised everyone at IEM Fall and qualified for the Major after a tough match against Fiend. At the Stockholm Major the positive results have just continued. Astralis, BIG, and Heroic all came short against the roster, which contains both experience in HooXi and roeJ, while nicoodoz, jabbi, and Zyphon are new faces on the scene.

Happy faces after the qualification for the PGL Major at IEM Fall

One of the key players on the Flames roster has been the experienced Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen, who we got to talk with on the phone Friday evening.

- We were super happy after we qualified for the Legends Stage. But quickly we started to move on and now we are fully focused on Saturday's matches.

The 27-year-old Dane has been the center of attention with his impressive performances, which has put him on top of the individual leaderboard with a 1.36 HLTV rating. Saturday roeJ and his teammates will face G2 in the opening round at the Legends Stage. A tough opponent but also a roster that Copenhagen Flames managed to beat at IEM Fall.

- We have built up great confidence right now. We have the mindset that we are not afraid of anyone. And I think that we are only getting stronger with this kind of mentality, which is pretty unreal to think about, when you consider, where we were before IEM Fall. 

It is hard not to compare the sudden rise of Copenhagen Flames with the one we saw last year from Gambit, who also have had success with combining an experienced player with young raw talents, that have had the right attitude towards the big grind through the ranks of lower-tier tournaments to break into the A-tier. Another comparison could also be made about the ways, that the two teams are playing. At least according to Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen.

- We are inspired by the way, that a team like Gambit is playing. We are not very structured, but we react more to what we see. It is more feeling-based decisions that we like to employ. We really like this way of playing, and I also think, that it makes it easier for the young players to fit in. We don't have a ton of strategies from the spawn, but that also makes us much more unpredictable. It's a way for us as a smaller team to try and equal the playing field against bigger teams, who have a lot of people to analyze the games and strats.

Copenhagen Flames have so far only been playing from their practice rooms at the PGL Major. From tomorrow all the matches will be played in a studio environment, but that should not be a big deal for the young roster.

- I can't speak for everyone on the team, but I don't think it will make a difference. We tried it at IEM Fall, so we already have a bit of experience playing in a studio. I do think, that it will make a difference if we make it to the Champions Stage in front of a crowd, but only time can tell, Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen says with a grin.
