In a surprising move, Virtus.pro announced the signing of the former Spirit and Entropiq star, Nikolay "mir" Bityukov.

The Russian rifler is signed on a long-term contract and will be replacing David "⁠n0rb3r7⁠" Danielyan for the Grand Final of the FiReLEAGUE Battle 2023 against 9z in Argentina in the weekend. David "⁠n0rb3r7⁠" Danielyan is injured for the event, but it is unsure whether n0rb3r7 again will be removed from the roster.

Nikolay "mir" Bityukov will play his first competitive match in nine months after he left Entropiq in October 2022. The Russian rifler was a menace in 2020, and 2021 were he delivered some outstanding stats in his time playing for Spirit. But after the departure from Entropiq things have been very quiet around the now 27-year-old player.

The first match in Group A at Roocet Cup saw BIG face Entropiq. A hard-fought series went the way of BIG even though Entropiq's newest signing 'mir' played amazingly.

The series kicked off on Entropiq's pick of Overpass. The Russian squad started nicely on the T side, but BIG recovered excellently and had a comfortable three-round lead at halftime. 

The CT side was where Entropiq did their damage. A dominating team effort had BIG begging for mercy, but there was none to find as Entropiq closed it at 16-11.

Just like on Overpass the halftime score was 9-6 on the second map of Dust2. This time it was the CT side of Entropiq, led by 'mir', who held the lead, even despite a masterful performance from 'Krimbo'.

'Krimbo' kept on playing like a star after the break, and with extreme lethality, he led the Germans to a CT side with only one loss.

'mir' kept on fragging as the teams moved on to the final map of Mirage but unfortunately for the Russians, that did not amount to a lot of rounds, as BIG also had some hard-hitters in 'tabseN' and 'faveN', and the two of them led the Germans to an 11-4 T-side half.

As they arrived on the offense, 'NickelBack' stepped up massively, and together with 'mir', he led the CIS squad back into contention. Slowly but surely they made their way back into the game, but in the end it was the veterans of BIG that took the victory.

One of the most powerful riflers from the CIS region has found himself a new home with the transfer of Nikolay “mir” Bityukov to Entropiq. The 26-year-old star player joins the Czech-based organization from Spirit, where he has played since September 2019.

mir is set to replace Viktor "Lack1" Boldyrev on Entropiq’s starting lineup, the organizations have confirmed. Gaming director at Entropiq, Pavel Klaban, had this to say about their new acquisition.

The addition of mir means that Entropiq now will field a full-Russian lineup under the leadership of in-game leader Aleksei "⁠NickelBack⁠" Trofimov and coach Dmitry "⁠hooch⁠" Bogdanov. The squad has already debuted the new roster at REPUBLEAGUE Season 3 against K23, where mir ended up being the highest-rated player in his initial match.

The biggest event of the year is over. The PGL Major Stockholm gave some much-needed answers for a lot of teams, which usually sparks a lot of interesting roster moves and speculations.

Following the crazy transfer-news regarding Astralis and their new-look lineup, having been just made official is new roster changes within the Spirit organization. Announced on their Twitter page the Russian duo of Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov and Nikolay "mir" Bityukov has been moved to the bench of the organization and has been placed on the transfer-market for new teams to make an offer. 

The roster change will be of immediate effect, meaning that both "chopper" and "mir" will not be participating at DreamHack Open November alongside their, now former, teammates. In place of the two experienced players will instead be the young IGL in Robert "Patsi" Isyanov from Spirit's academy team and the 17-year-old rifler Aleksandr "KaiR0N-" Anashkin.

mousesports never left Evil Geniuses any chances in their rendezvous at the IEM Cologne Play-in. The victory was established on Nuke with an outstanding performance from Robin "ropz" Kool, who went 38-17 in the 28 rounds it took mousesports to win 16-12.

On Inferno, it was David "frozen" Čerňanský who took control of the match. The Slovakian almost replicated the performance from ropz and helped his team win a clear 16-8 victory.

Team Spirit had to use all three maps to qualify. Against Sprout, they had won the first map but then went on to lose their own map pick. On Nuke, the two star players from Spirit, Nikolay "mir" Bityukov and Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov shined to help the team take the last rounds and seal the deal.

mousesport will have a tough opponent in the main tournament, where they will face Gambit, while Spirit will face Heroic.

The first map was to be played on Nuke, which was Entropiq´s map pick.

But it was Spirit who got the best start on the map, as they won the first half 10-5 in a near-perfect performance as the CT side from the Russian roster.

But the ex-Winstrike roster delivered the same as the Spirit roster in the second half, as they also managed to win the second half 10-5, which left us with overtime from the first map.

And not just any overtime, this overtime ended up lasting a whole map, as we needed thirty extra rounds to find a winner of the map, as Entropiq wins the map 31-29!

After an amazing first map, we had high expectations from the second map, as the legendary Dust2 was waiting for us.

The first half was very even, as Spirit got a small lead at 8-7 before the half, but they fully dominated as the CT side on Dust2.

This is impressive, as we know Dust2 is the most T-sided competitive map there is, but Spirit managed to win 8-2 as the CT side in the second half, which was enough for them to win the map 16-9.

Therefore, a third and decisive map was needed to find a winner of the match from Group B.

The last map was on Mirage, where Entropiq got themselves the best start at the map with a 9-6 win after the first half as the T side, and you may think that they ended up winning after such a great performance in the first half, but no.

Spirit delivered a fantastic second half, where they won 10-4, which was enough for them to secure the map win at 16-13, and with this result, Spirit won the game 2-1 against Entropiq in a thriller of a match!

Virtus.pro had to work hard to qualify for the next match in the lower brackets of Group B at IEM Summer. YEKINDAR and company made a fine comeback to win 2-1 against Spirit.

It was Team Spirit who started the CIS brawl best. On Dust2 they completely silenced Virtus.pro's reliable riffler, YEKINDAR, who was 2-19 in K-D after the first 20 rounds! In the last seven rounds of the map, the Latvian took his revenge though and went 12-6. But it was still not enough for VP, who had to surrender Dust2 11-16.

But YEKINDAR had found the momentum which was important going into Inferno. Here Virtus.pro quickly established a big 12-3 lead. In typically VP fashion they played the entire second half taking no risks, and cruised home a 16-9 win.

And then it was time for Ancient! The new map in the pool was set as the decider. For both, it was the first time ever in a competitive match. The map has already gotten a reputation for being slightly CT-sided, which was evident in this match. Spirit won their CT side 10-5, which put Virtus.pro under big pressure before their turn.

But with Qikert as the mastermind, Virtus.pro went to war on Ancient and began the comeback. Despite losing the first two rounds of the second half, VP hauled in the lead and actually had the chance of winning at 15-13. But then Spirit finally adjusted and answered back. And then the match went to overtime.

Spirit got off to a perfect start in the overtime winning two T-rounds. But Virtus.pro managed to replicate that and even do it better to win Ancient 19-17 and knock out Team Spirit from the event after four hours of Counter-Strike.

Virtus.pro move on to the next round of the lower bracket, where they will face Ninjas in Pyjamas for the last spot in the playoffs at IEM Summer.

The first map was on Mirage, where it was an even game until Spirit was better in the end.

In the first half, it was very even, even in the end though Spirit got themselves a fantastic start as they were in front by 6-1 after the first seven rounds as the CT side, NaVi came back in the first half and they ended up minimizing the loss to 8-7 in the first half.

But in the second half as the T side on Mirage, the Spirit roster chose to take the level up a notch and demolish the defense of Natus Vincere, winning the map 16-12 after an 8-6 victory in the second half.

The second map was on Dust2, where spirit dominated to the fullest, Spirit just seemed better on the day.

In the first half Spirit should work as the T side, where they fully demolished the defense of NaVi with a 10-5 victory in the first half, their offensive plays just seemed unstoppable.

And Spirit didn’t turn their concentration down, as you could think after a 10-5 lead, they kept fighting as the CT side, and they ended up winning the map 16-8, after a clear demonstration of power from Spirit.

Therefore, Spirit won the Russian Derby against Natus Vincere who didn’t seem to find themselves on the day, against a strong Spirit side.

Spirit moves on to the final of the lower bracket in the EPIC League CIS 2021 against Virtus.pro.

The first two matchups of the playoffs at EPIC CIS League saw Spirit and Gambit take the expected wins.

Spirit sent K23 to the lower bracket after winning their opponent's map pick 16-4 before finishing the job on Dust2.

Gambit has been outrageously good this year, but it seems like the gear has dropped a little in the last weeks, maybe the team needs a little break after all these tournaments.

In a thrilling Bo3-series, the current best team in the entire world in Gambit took on the challenge of Russian Spirit. The Bo3-series took place within the EPIC League CIS 2021 event. Despite being ranked 11 ranks below the side of Gambit today was all about Spirit. Due to a strong start on map one of Mirage, they were able to keep piling on the pressure and ultimately managed to defeat Gambit 2-0 in an impressive upset.

The first map of the series took place on Mirage. The map was the map pick of Gambit and is known to be an incredibly strong map for the Gambit roster. Today, however, a different story was told. Spirit started on the CT side and Gambit just couldn’t seem to break through the side of Spirit. Due to an immense lead at halftime, at the scoreline of 11-4 favoring Spirit, all they had to do in the second half of Mirage was close out map one. They did exactly that and could walk away with Mirage at the scoreline of 16-5. 

The second map was picked by the Russians of Spirit. After having dominated Gambit on Gambit’s own map pick, it was difficult to imagine Spirit, not coming flying out of the gate on Dust 2. And sure enough, they did. Securing an early lead on their T-side it seemed as if Dust 2 would be a replay of what happened on Mirage. However, the map of Dust 2 turned out to be far more competitive than the one of Mirage. With both teams giving it their all they traded rounds. Ultimately it was Spirit to manage a 16-14 victory on Dust 2 and therefore a 2-0 victory against the side of Gambit.

The Bulgarians from Fiend came very close to making the first upset at DreamHack Masters Spring. After having won Mirage, the two former Windigo players Kamen 'bubble' Kostadinov and Viktor 'v1c7oR' Dyankov had every chance to eliminate Team Spirit on Overpass with their younger teammates on Fiend. At 15-13, they had the chance after having planted the bomb but lost the 3vs4 situation. In overtime, they could see an ignited Abdul 'degster' Gasanov settle the score and force the match to be decided on Nuke.

Here it felt like, that Fiend had the lost momentum, that had carried them into almost winning the match. On the scoreboard, it translated into a 12-3 lead at the break for Spirit, where mir, magixx, and chopper all were making life tough for the Bulgarians.

Spirit made the last push on their CT-side to win the match and advance in the lower brackets, while Fiend is out after a very fine performance.

2021 has been an eventful and action-packed year for CS:GO with the calendar year presenting one prominent and big event after another. One of the biggest talking points so far has been the strong dominance by the CIS region and its representing teams.

Teams like Virtus.pro, Gambit, Spirit, and partly NAVI has completely conquered the elite of CS:GO by steamrolling over every opponent and taking home some of the biggest events on the calendar. NAVI’s win at BLAST Premier Global Final, Virtus.pro’s triumph at cs_summit 7, and Gambit’s victory at IEM Katowice are all clear proves of the dominance – And maybe also the start of a new era?

Spirit managed to come out on top after an exciting battle in the Quarter-final at BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, which saw the Russian-Ukrainian side take down Dignitas 2-1 to book a spot in the semi-finals. f0rest and company leave the tournament on a 5-8th place and take home $10.000 in prize earning.

Spirit kicked off Dignitas’ map pick of Nuke promisingly on the defense, storming to a 8-2 lead despite losing the pistol round. However, after a poor start from Dignitas, f0rest and company took control of proceedings to lower their deficit to three rounds before halftime. As the teams switched sides, Dignitas shut down Spirit’s offense and found themselves with 15-11 lead, before the Russian-Ukrainian side fought back to 14-15. Despite a good comeback attempt, degster and company didn’t manage to grab the last round, instead Dignitas took a 1-0 series lead by closing out the map 16-14.

On the second map of the series, Dust2, Spirit finished off the first half with a 9-6 lead even though they had a slow start. The two teams started off the second half by trading rounds, but it was Spirit who ran away the map victory as they strung five rounds together in the end to close out the map 16-9. Spirit’s mir stepped up huge with a 1.60 rating and lead his team to victory.

Spirit wrapped up the series 2-1 by closing out the decider of Inferno 16-7. degster and company stood strong and were in complete control of the game, leaving no doubt that they were the better team.

Pistol rounds have always been a major part of Counter-Strike, even more previously than now. Due to a change in the Counter-Strike economy back in 2019, it is less detrimental to the game now than in the earlier stages. However, a pistol round win is always favorable and can grant you up to two additional "easier" rounds. But which team has had the most success with its pistol rounds in 2021? The answer is Team Spirit.

With a win% of 61.1%, there should be no doubt that these CIS players are dangerous with their secondary gun. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for Team Spirit's great success so far in 2021. Whether or not they can keep posting these impressive numbers throughout 2021 remains to be unknown, but one thing is for sure - you can never count Team Spirit out of a pistol round. 

You can look forward to seeing more of Team Spirit against other top-tier teams when BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2021 starts tomorrow (13/4). Team Spirit is set to face Extra Salt in their first Bo3-series of the event on Wednesday at 12:30 (CET).

The comeback came on Mirage for Gambit, Gambit has been strong on Mirage for a long time. Their CT defense is very strong on Mirage and gives them an advantage in every round on the map.

It all came down to the last map, Train. A very close map, where Gambit ended up with the win after a great map especially from Hobbit, who overpowered Team Spirit and secured Gambit a spot in the final.

Spirit has only lost three games in 2021, with two of them being against their next opponent Gambit.

They have been playing on top of their game, beating the likes of G2, Astralis, and Heroic.

The Russian organization Gambit has been lethal throughout the ESL Pro League and to have a better average player rating than them really is something when they are in this form.

Especially the Russian duo Nikolay “mir” Bityukov with a 1.27 rating and Abdul “degster” Gasanov with a 1.28 rating has been playing on an unreal level for Spirit thoughout the last four months.   

The nineteen-year-old Abdul “degster” Gasanov came on a loan from ESPADA in January, it seems to be the perfect matchup with the rest of the Spirit team.

We are now one quarter deep into 2021 and the big talking point on the CS:GO scene so far, must be the complete and utter dominance by the Eastern European region called CIS. The region holds a long track record of impressive achievements and accolades on the very top of the game, mostly represented by the Russian top team Natus Vincere.

However, this year things have changed up a bit. The CIS region has gone from an absolute monarchy with NAVI sitting on the throne, to a more diverse and broad scale. Young and promising teams as Gambit, embodied by the former Gambit Youngsters roster, Spirit and Virtus.pro has skyrocketed onto the top tier scene of Counter-Strike, presenting huge victories at some of the biggest events in the world.
