Seven of the top 10 teams in the world have secured spots in the playoff bracket of the PGL Copenhagen Major, marking a level of competition not seen in a Major for five years. This stacked lineup naturally complicates predictions for the final stage. Let's delve into the matchups:

During the Elimination Stage, Vitality faced challenges due to Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut falling ill, requiring other players to step up. However, with ZywOo hopefully recovered, Vitality faces Cloud9. This encounter has occurred three times in recent months, with Vitality leading 2-1. Although Cloud9 has shown improved performance, especially with Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov's resurgence and Kirill 'Boombl4' Mikhailov's solid leadership, we predict Vitality's victory with ZywOo back in form.

Team Spirit, winners of IEM Katowice 2024, have been exceptional this year, led by Danil "donk" Kryshkovets, Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov, and Myroslav 'zont1x' Plakhotia under the guidance of Leonid 'chopper' Vishnyakov. In the Elimination Stage, we correctly predicted MOUZ to go 3-0, and they delivered. Despite challenges, they convincingly defeated Complexity. G2 struggled, relying on fortunate circumstances to eliminate Virtus.pro. MOUZ appears stronger, although lacking some experience on the big stage compared to G2.

After a long and grueling match, Spirit came out on top in their encounter with NAVI in the 2W-0L bracket.

The match started on Nuke with an overtime win for NAVI. Justinas "jL" Lekavicius went completely bonkers with a 40-19 K-D score.

The problem for NAVI was, that the Lithuanian was the only player from NAVI, that really popped off. Ihor "w0nderful" Zhdanov also had his moments, but against both Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets in a great form, NAVI had to see their new CIS rivals run away with the victory after a 13-9, and 13-7 score on Ancient and Mirage in favor of Spirit.

Spirit join MOUZ in the 3-0 bracket, and can now look forward to the Quarter-Finals at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen next week.

NAVI now has a 2W-1L record, and will face Cloud9 tomorrow for a spot in the Playoffs.

Natus Vincere

Round 1 of the Elimination Stage at the PGL Major Copenhagen ended with victories for G2 and Team Spirit.

Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and the rest of the G2 gang didn’t take long to smash FURIA on Inferno. Fans of the team will be happy to see Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač back in excellent shape after a couple of lackluster months. The Bosnian kept up with the two stars of G2, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, and Nikola “NiKo” Kovač at the top of the scoreboard. G2 won 13-3 on Inferno.

Team Spirit and Cloud9 played the last match of the round on Ancient. Here Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov faced his old teammates, who had gone flawlessly through the Opening Stage of the Major in Copenhagen. But against Spirit, Cloud9 could not continue their excellent showing from the first stage. The firepower from Spirit was simply on another level with Danil "donk" Kryshkovets, and Myroslav 'zont1x' Plakhotia showing very promising signs in their Major debut. Spirit won 13-7 and move on into the 1-0 bracket.

Today the last chance qualifier for the BLAST Spring Final in London kicks off.

16 teams start in a single elimination bracket, where four teams on Sunday will fight for two spots at the London-event later this year.

The Saudi-backed organization has loaned none other than Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev to fill up their roster after they benched Mohammad "BOROS" Malhas in the wake of the failed Major qualification. The match against the Swedes from Metizport will be Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev first competitive match in CS2 after he decided to withdraw from the NAVI roster in October 2023. During his break from Counter-Strike, the Ukrainian has talked openly about switching roles from the traditional AWP. We can’t wait to see, what the best player of the CS:GO era brings to the table in his first CS2 match!

The Russian wonderkid finally showed that he was human after all at the European RMR tournament, but what level will he show at the BLAST Showdown event. In their first match they go up against the American team Elevate, which should be done quickly. In the upper bracket, we are curious to see, how good are 

 really? Could they be a potential playoff team at the upcoming Major in Copenhagen? They face NIP in the opening round, which should not be a problem for Heroic. Later on, they could be matched up with Cloud9, where we could get some real answers about this Heroic side, who has shown some good Counter-Strike against lesser opponents, but against sides such as Vitality, Spirit, and G2 they have shown their limits so far.

Day 2 of the EU Group B RMR tournament in Romania ended with several big upsets. Vitality’s defeat to Cloud9 came unexpectedly as Vitality had been firing on all cylinders in the first two matches of the tournament. But against Kirill 'Boombl4' Mikhailov and Cloud9, Vitality suddenly looked shaky at times just like we saw at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups and at IEM Katowice. The last map of Anubis was especially rough for Vitality, who only won one CT round during the second half.

Another big upset happened a few hours later. MOUZ managed to silence both Spirit and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets. The Russian wonderkid has (unsurprisingly) not been able to live up to the insane performances at IEM Katowice, and had a tough time dealing with MOUZ on both Vertigo and Mirage. Kamil 'siuhy' Szkaradek led the MOUZ roster both by calling and fragging and secured the qualification for the PGL Copenhagen Major in style winning 13-10, 13-11.

On the other end of the spectrum, two teams would leave the EU RMR Group B with three straight defeats. First up it was Guild Eagles against Nexus. Both teams won their map pick before settling the score on Ancient. Here the entire Guild Eagles team came together to finish off the Romanians from Nexus, who gave a good fight in the end.

The last match of the day featured the record-holder of most attended Majors in history and most won Majors in history. Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen and Preasy were tasked with beating the Hungarians from PERA to stay alive in the tournament. Once again both teams won their own map picks to force the match into a third decider map. On Nuke Preasy broke PERA after a superb start leading 11-0 before PERA finally won a round. Preasy won the match 13-1 and thereby kept the dream of representing their country on home soil in Copenhagen alive for at least one day longer.

2024 has started with a bang for 17-year-old Danil "donk" Kryshkovets. The young Russian has been the talk of the town after delivering insane numbers for Team Spirit in their RMR matches and at IEM Katowice.

In 2021, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets played his first competitive map registered on HLTV. At the age of 14 years, the Russian rifler played the second map against EC Kyiv for Spirit Academy at the Malta Vibes Knockout Series 1. Spirit Academy won the match with Danil "donk" Kryshkovets ending the second map of Dust2 with an 18-15 K-D score.

Danil "donk" Kryshkovets is born in Tomsk in Siberia, Russia. With more than 5,000 km from the nearest CS server in Stockholm, the young Spirit rifler has been used to playing CS:GO with a 100 ping. A situation that has helped donk elevate his game in CS2.

- I have had to play from Tomsk with 100 ping, and when you play on such a high ping, you cannot stay still in the game – you have to be on the move always. And that is kind of the gameplay in CS2, so I think it has been easier for me to adapt and why the transition has been so smooth, donk told Pley.gg in November 2023.

In 2023 the Spirit player started to gain attention after destroying FACEIT, while also performing excellently for the Spirit Academy team. He was promoted to Spirit’s main team in the summer of 2023 alongside Artem "⁠ArtFr0st⁠" Kharitonov and Myroslav "⁠zont1x⁠" Plakhotia. Here the team found instant success winning the BetBoom Dacha tournament.

At the few LAN events, that Danil "donk" Kryshkovets has attended, his behavior has been highlighted several times due to his shouting and taunting of his opponents. An attitude that was critized by NAVI’s experienced head coach, Andrey "⁠B1ad3⁠" Gorodenskiy after a match at IEM Katowice.

- He has a great future, but I think the only thing he needs is to fix his behavior. Sometimes he's screaming really bad words at this age, and it's weird, very sad that nobody around can help him, to have good advice to say to him. They even praise him for doing this is, this is weird for me. I would really like to advise him not to be that kind of aggressive, screaming. It's different. When apEX is screaming, it's a different thing. He's screaming bad words and you see he means this, actually. It's a dangerous road, B1ad3 told HLTV in an interview.

In our interview with donk last year, the Russian rifler explained his playstyle on the server like this.

- My playstyle is very aggressive, I like to take duels, and I like to play cocky. But I also like to play disciplined sometimes. I would say my strengths on the server are my confidence in taking duels, and my confidence that I will out-aim and out-play my opponent.

While most people would point at Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut as the clear-cut contender for the title of the best player in the world for many years to come, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets’s performances at the start of 2024 has elevated him into the sphere of the elite CS2 players in the world. With Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov’s arrival to Team Spirit, donk finds himself on a team, that could also be challenging for the titles at S-Tier tournaments such as IEM Katowice, where Spirit has been the best-performing team of all so far.

In the race for number 1 in the world, donk will have to take up the fight with one of his heroes. His idol growing up has been Nikola "NiKo" Kovac, who finished 2023 as the second-best player in the world. In our interview with Danil "donk" Kryshkovets, he explained why he has looked up to NiKo as a player.

- Because our playstyle is quite similar and he’s also a confident player, who takes a lot of duels, and is capable of producing highlights as well. I’m watching his demos so if I see something good that I can replicate, then for sure I will try to incorporate in my own game.

The words from Janko "YNk" Paunović on the desk of IEM Katowice said it all. The astonishing fact, that Team Spirit’s Danil "donk" Kryshkovets had just pulled off the best tournament in terms of rating of any players in the past in his S-Tier tournament debut has left the CS community in a mixed state of shock and awe of the performances of the young Russian player.

The next tournament for Danil "donk" Kryshkovets and Team Spirit is the European RMR tournament for the upcoming PGL Major in Copenhagen. Here Spirit is placed in Group B, which is set to start February 19th.

In one of the most convincing Grand Final performances in recent times, Team Spirit defeated FaZe 3-0 at the Spodek Arena in Katowice.

Before the game, the questions were raised if Danil "donk" Kryshkovets could continue his insane performances at the tournament in a Grand Final against a very experienced FaZe roster, who participated in their fifth Grand Final in a row. The question was quickly answered on the first map of Nuke, where Danil "donk" Kryshkovets dropped 32 kills in the 22 rounds it took Spirit to win FaZe’s map pick 13-9.

Next up was Mirage, and despite a good start from FaZe, where it seemed they rattled Spirit’s wonderkid, Danil "donk" Kryshkovets still showed up in the end to finish FaZe’s hope of a quick equalizer in the best-of-five match.

On Overpass it was pure domination from start to end for Spirit and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets. 11-1 was the score at the break, where Danil "donk" Kryshkovets could look at his screen and see a 22-5 K-D scoreline in front of his name. An unreal performance that will undoubtedly put shockwaves through the Counter-Strike scene.

It was almost a shame for the many spectators that had filled the Spodek Arena with a superb atmosphere, that the match did not deliver an evenly fought match. Instead, the audience became witness to a Team Spirit triumph winning IEM Katowice in style.

The many spectators also saw the first glimpse of Danil "donk" Kryshkovets performing at the very highest level in one of the biggest arenas that Counter-Strike has to offer. The 17-year-old was crowned MVP of the tournament with a staggering 1.70! rating during the 12 maps he played at the event. It was the second MVP award for the young rifler, who picked up the award in the BetBoom Dacha tournament in December 2023. All eyes will be on the Russian rifler for the next many tournaments to see, if he can live up to the enormous expectations, that go with such performances that he showed the past two weeks in Katowice.

In what could be an epic conclusion to IEM Katowice, FaZe and Team Spirit are lined up for the Grand Final in the Spodek Arena in Poland. FaZe, with experienced veterans such as Finn "karrigan" Andersen and Håvard "rain" Nygaard takes on the hottest team on the planet right now with 17-year-old Danil "donk" Kryshkovets at the front of the pack with insane firepower. The young Spirit rifler has been the talk of the town since CS2 was released, and at Katowice, the Siberian-born player has annihilated all opposition averaging an insane 1.63 rating. The closest competitor right now in Katowice is Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov at a 1.35 rating. m0NESY was knocked out in the quarter-finals, while David "frozen" Čerňanský is the second highest-ranked player still in the tournament with a 1.28 rating.

For the fifth LAN tournament in a row, FaZe will take part in the Grand Final, after they defeated MOUZ in the first semi-final of the day in Katowice.

It was one-way traffic from the get-go on Nuke. It was the three former MOUZ players, Finn "karrigan" Andersen, Robin "ropz" Kool, and David "frozen" Čerňanský that spearheaded a potent FaZe offensive. A 13-3 win told the story of a very composed and strong looking FaZe roster.

MOUZ took a hit in the first map, and it did not go better in the first half of Ancient. A 10-2 lead for FaZe left MOUZ believers in a rough state. An excellent second half from Jimi 'Jimpphat' Salo and Ádám 'torzsi' Torzsás gave some much needed hope back on the young roster, but in the end, it was not enough.

The second semi-final of the day saw Danil "donk" Kryshkovets and Spirit go up against Team Falcons. With the insane performances from the young Spirit rifler, all eyes were on Danil "donk" Kryshkovets to witness his first Arena match. And he didn’t disappoint. Spirit came out blazing and blew Falcons out of the server. Danil "donk" Kryshkovets was leading the pack once again, and was the main factor in Spirit stealing Falcons’s map pick. It was only Alvaro "SunPayus" Garcia, who truly gave Spirit problems during the 21 rounds it took Spirit to win 13-8.

On Ancient it was once again Spirit in full control. A 9-3 lead was converted to a 13-3 win. Spirit and Danil "donk" Kryshkovets will now go up against FaZe tomorrow in the Grand Final of IEM Katowice.

Team Vitality

2023 was the year where CS:GO was replaced by CS2 during the year, that otherwise were dominated by teams such as Team Vitality, FaZe, and G2.

Player-wise the story of the year was the decline of Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev, who ended the year by taking a pause from the game after the release of CS2. Despite a drop in performance from the Ukrainian, s1mple is still ranked in the top 10 players of the year. A testament to the insane levels that the NAVI players have shown in the past years.

Another revelation of 2023 was the emergence of the 16-year-old Danil "donk" Kryshkovets. In the summer of 2023, donk was promoted to the first team of Team Spirit, and has since been dominating CS2. 2024 looks promising for the Russian roster, who got Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov onboard at the end of the year. With two players in the top 3 of the best-performing players of 2023, Team Spirit will have high hopes for the new year.
