This Wednesday is going to present the start of the playoff stage from Pinnacle Cup IV, which features exciting names like Apeks, ECSTATIC and most notably the Major semifinalist from Spirit. The $100.000 tournament has also invited Movistar Riders, TYLOO, Eternal Fire, and Bad News Eagles with them jumping into the action in the quarterfinals.

The first match at Pinnacle Cup IV will begin at 10:00 (CET).

A quarter-finals spot was on the line when the Russians of Spirt took on the Danes of Copenhagen Flames. Both teams somewhat surprisingly went 2-0 on Day 1 and now had a chance to lock up a quarter-finals spot.

The Bo3 kicked off on Vertigo, a map that has almost become synonymous with the Copenhagen Flames, and it was of course their map pick. After taking a commanding early lead, the Danes suddenly loosened their grip on the match and let the CIS squad come back into it, and it was all tied up at halftime with an 8-7 lead for the Flames.

As we came into the rifles rounds in the second half it quickly became clear that the Flames would win the map. After losing the two initial rounds the Danes went on an 8-1 run with none of the rounds being won by defusing. 

The brawl continued on Sprit's pick of Mirage, and it was the Russians on the T side who got off to the best start as they led by three rounds at halftime after what had been an extremely close half with multiple ties and lead changes.

A solid defensive effort from Spirit and yet another great performance from "Patsi" meant that the Flames were only able to take two round wins in the second half and the match was pushed to a decider.

Ancient was the third and final map and on the T side, the Copenhagen Flames crucially managed to take the pistol round. This was where the fun began for Spirit who immediately returned the favor by going on a ginormous ten-round streak. Fortunately, the Flames took three of the last four rounds and the round deficit was now manageable.

The Danes took the second half pistol round and the conversion but did not find more, as the Russians of Spirit were simply playing a better game today.

Spirit surprise everyone as the first team through to the playoffs, while the Flames will have another chance to do the same tomorrow.

When looking at the impressive list of teams to attend the upcoming PGL Major 2022 in Antwerp, you probably wouldn't think twice about Team Spirit when glancing over their name. This, however, might be a mistake as they could very well be the dark horse at the upcoming event. Having just finished the Challenger stage of the PGL Major with flying colors, Team Spirit is not to be underestimated and if their opponents do so they could end up going way further than expected. 

It is no secret that Team Spirit, alongside Bad News Eagles and Imperial, is a team that isn't expected to go very far against the likes of Natus Vincere and FaZe. This, however, is not necessarily a bad thing. If you ask 18-year-old Robert "Patsi" Isyanov, being the underdogs is a position that Team Spirit finds themselves comfortable in:

When looking at the recent numbers for the Team Spirit roster, one player stands out as being spectacular - he goes by the name of "degster". Abdul "degster" Gasanov finished the Challenger stage as the best performing player with a rating of 1.44. What is more impressive is that he has been performing at this absurdly high level for quite some time. In the past three months, he has averaged a rating of 1.32, topping the likes of "ZywOo" and "NiKo" by quite a bit. 

If "degster" continues his strong form it isn't unreasonable to think that Team Spirit might have a greater chance than expected at the upcoming Major. And if the remaining roster of Team Spirit can reach a higher level as well as continue to set up "degster" we might have the next dark horse on our hands with Team Spirit. 

"degster" and his troops are set to face FURIA in their opening match at the PGL Major 2022 in Antwerp tomorrow at 14.30 (CEST). 

Spirit had a surprisingly easy day at the office as they qualified for the Legends Stage with a 2-0 victory versus Astralis. One of the reasons the Russians had such an easy time was the dominance of Abdul "degster" Gasanov. The 20-year-old AWP'er performed amazingly on both maps and had a whopping +29 KD with only 50 rounds played.

Team Sprit has been one of the most positive suprises at the PGL Antwer Major. The CIS team qualified for the Legends Stage Wednesday after a very convincing win against Astralis.

After the match Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov was asked to explain why he is putting in big numbers lately for his team. The Russian AWP'er was the MVP in the match against the Danes, which could be contributed to a more aggressive style of AWP'ing.

Today's first advancement match to the Legends Stage at PGL Antwerp Major saw Spirit qualify after a convincing 2-0 win against Astralis.

The Danes actually got off to a good start on Spirit's map pick, Overpass. Benjamin "blameF" Bremer had another field day on the CT side going 20-7 in K-D in the first half alone. But the 10-5 lead at the break was quickly caught by Spirit, who had no problems taking down the Danes on their CT side.

Astralis had picked their new favorite map Ancient as the second map of the day. But the pick proved to be a mistake. Spirit handled everything that Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander and his teammates threw at them. In a stunning fashion Spirit won Ancient 16-6 to qualify for the Legends Stage, while Astralis is now forced to win tomorrow's all-or-nothing match if they are to make it through to the next stage of the PGL Antwerp Major.

It was the old guard against the young guns at PGL Antwerp Major. Imperial with multiple Major winners on the roster had their work cut out against Spirit, who arrived in Antwerp with five straight victories in the bag.

The CIS roster came out strong and took a 10-5 lead to the break. It was especially youngster Robert "Patsi" Isyanov who created problems for the experienced Brazilians. The 18-year-old rifler was relentless throughout the map, while AWP’er Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov provided all the necessary opening kills to give his team the upper hand time and time again.

In the end, it became a bit ugly for Imperial, who crashed down hard during the second half, where the Brazilians only won one round.

After three months without a full roster, Team Spirit returns to CS:GO with a new lineup led by Leonid "⁠chopper⁠" Vishnyakov as the captain and in-game leader. The Russians have decided to round off the roster by promoting the 19-year-old Pavel "⁠s1ren⁠" Ogloblin from Spirit Academy.

Nikita Chukalin, CEO Team Spirit has stated the following concerning today’s news:

- We feel like the players needed this break to reset and re-energize towards this season. Young rookies, a new head coach, and a heightened competitive hunger should all help our CS:GO roster reach new heights. Sometimes you have to take two steps back, to move forward. With pistol rounds kicking off both the first and second half in every competitive CS:GO match, it means that they are instrumental and key rounds to win if you wish to build up momentum. Pistol rounds are not a treat for every pro player, however, there are some individuals who thrive in these rounds, where you often have nothing but your USP or Glock in hand.

Looking at the statistics from 2021, it’s quite clear who has been the most dominant pistol round player this year, with the French phenomenon Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut placing levels above everyone else. Even though the Vitality superstar hasn’t had a super successful year like the previous ones, his 1.48 pistol round rating is out of this world.

They were the talk of the town after the three-time defending Major champions Astralis were on the verge of an early exit at the Stockholm Major. But since Day 1, Astralis is now 3-0 (and 6-0 in maps) after they dismantled Team Spirit in the last elimination match before the Legends Stage at the PGL Stockholm Major.

A very solid-looking Astralis roster quickly took control on Dust2 to set things straight right away. Despite it being Team Spirits map pick, it was the experienced Danish roster that managed to break down the offense from Spirit. With exception of Peter 'dupreeh' Rasmussen, the entire Astralis roster came out firing to shut down any hope for the Russians, who could see their map pick slip away. In-game leader Lukas 'gla1ve' Rossander was relentless on the map, where he went 25-14 in K-D!

Spirit now had to win Inferno to stay alive. A mission that seemed hopeless 10-3 down. But then Abdul 'degster' Gasanov woke up. The Russian sniper was both lethal with the AWP and rifle. Almost single-handedly he brought Spirit back into the match and completed the comeback at 10-10 with an unforgettable 1vs4 clutch. 

With all the momentum going Spirit's way, it seemed unlikely, that Astralis could find their feet again. But Counter-Strike works in mysterious ways which came on full display in round 21, where Astralis finally broke the winning streak from Spirit and regained control of the match. It ended 16-12 in favor of the Danes, who is now ready for the Legends Stage, after having been 0-2 down. Team Spirit leaves the tournament early.

The packed schedule today from IEM Fall CIS, the last RMR tournament before the PGL Major, is in full swing. One of the first matches at the event was the battle between Nemiga and Spirit, where it was the latter team who ended up as the victors.

The Bo1 matchup was set to be played on Nuke, owing to the veto of the two teams. Spirit began on the CT-side and showed quickly that a new meta has commenced in CS:GO – The so-called M4A1-S meta.

The players from Spirit clearly took advantage of the new update by Valve, where the M4A1-S was buffed heavily. With the silencer on their rifles and an incredibly powerful AWPer in Abdul “degster” Gasanov, the Russian dragons steamrolled over Nemiga in the first half, setting up a dominant 11-4 score before the switch.

The dominance by Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov’s troops continued on the T-side, as they battered through Nemiga’s defence round after round. Spirit closed out the Bo1 match with a strong 16-4 victory, which means they are now topping Group A.

The action began on Bad News Bears’ pick on Inferno, a map that Spirit only had a 17% win rate on before the match. However, it didn’t look like one of their worst maps as they went on to crush the American side. degster and company cruised to an 10-5 lead with confidence before halftime and showed no signs of slowing down in the second half. The Russians were first out of the gate in the second half, taking the first four rounds, before Bad News Bears managed to get their sixth round on the scoreboard. That didn’t affect Spirit, who quickly ripped apart their opponent’s defense to secure the remaining rounds and close the map 16-6. 

Spirit brought their momentum to Dust2, where they continued to shine as a team. The Russian squad stormed to an 11-1 lead in the first half, with the whole team firing on all cylinders, before BNB finally could add two rounds on the scoreboard. In the second half, BNB managed to win some force buy rounds that helped them lower their deficit before Spirit decided to close out the map, 16-8.

To clutch a round of competitive CS:GO isn't something that is remotely easy, especially once we are back at LAN. Everyone's eyes are on you as you are left alone with the task of securing an entire round all by yourself. As it currently stands the top five players with the most clutches at the event are as follows: 

At the top sits Russian Abdul "degster" Gasanov, who has proven himself to be a dangerous beast once unleashed. At the young age of only 19 years, the Russian AWP'er from Team Spirit has surprised everyone with just how clinical he can be. The CIS teams experienced a rebirth in the online era and took over the rankings in a matter that has never been seen from CIS teams in the past. However, questions about whether or not they would be able to reproduce and remain as clinical once back at LAN were raised. 

"degster" and Team Spirit, as well as the current best team in the world in Gambit, have proven that even back on LAN they are a force to be feared. The young "degster" is currently one of the best performing players at the IEM Cologne 2021 event and is definitely a promising prospect for the future of CIS Counter-Strike. The fourth day of the IEM Cologne 2021 event will feature many top-tier matches between some of the biggest teams in the entire world. To start the day was the big brawl between Iconic FaZe and the CIS roster from Team Spirit. The Bo3-series wasn’t just any series – it was a battle for survival at the event where only one out of the two would be able to advance further. FaZe has looked very good so far at the event, however, they are a team who have experienced difficulties with remaining consistent. Today was also a tumultuous affair for the FaZe roster as they almost threw away the series on the second map of Inferno. In the end, however, they closed it out and won 2-1 against Team Spirit.

The first map was the pick of the Russian roster from Team Spirit. The map pool of the CIS team is, arguably, one of the weaknesses of the team at this current moment of time, and with Dust 2 being banned by FaZe it meant that the first map was to be played on Overpass. Despite being a solid map for the Russians it was the FaZe roster to start the strongest with huge CT-sided holds from “broky”, “olofmeister” and “Twistzz”. However, this proved to be all smoke and mirrors as the FaZe roster failed to keep up with Team Spirit without the hero-like plays from their individuals. Slowly but surely, it was Team Spirit to grind out the FaZe roster and finish Overpass as they had intended at the scoreline of 16-11.

The second map was picked by FaZe and saw the Bo3-series continue on Inferno. Whilst FaZe has not had too much success on the map as of recent it becomes clear as to why it was picked when looking at Team Spirit’s win rate. In the past three months, Teams Spirit has only managed to win 27% of their games on Inferno. This, however, didn’t show in the early stages of Inferno, as both teams came out of the gate ready to battle for their survival at IEM Cologne 2021. Despite the even start it was FaZe to shift gears and turn up the heat. Taking one round after the other they managed to create an incredible lead at 11-4 after the first half.

However, as good as the first half had been for FaZe, just as bad was the second half for the European roster. Having only won four rounds in the first half it looked almost impossible for Team Spirit to close this series out in just two maps. But it wasn’t impossible after all. After a strategical masterclass from Team Spirit, they managed to claw themselves back and even things out at 13-13. Despite Team Spirit’s incredible comeback to make things interesting, it proved to be all for nothing in the end as FaZe pulled themselves together and closed out Inferno at the scoreline of 16-13.

The third and final map was to be played on Vertigo. Just like Inferno had ended it was a close affair over on Vertigo. Neither team was ready to accept defeat and carried on exchanging round after round. Due to a strong first half from FaZe, however, they had the momentum carrying through to the second half and they looked the slightly stronger roster as they gained a slight lead at 13-10 on their t-side. Despite close rounds from the Russian Team Spirit roster, it slipped away from them in the dying stages of the game and FaZe could walk away with the Bo3-series after closing Vertigo 16-10.

IEM Cologne 2021 update – FURIA vs Renegades (2-0)

Whilst FaZe and Team Spirit were battling for their survival at IEM Cologne 2021 another Bo3-series in the lower bracket took place. The Brazilians from FURIA welcomed the Australian Renegades roster to a brawl. And a brawl it was, however, perhaps more one-sided than one would have hoped for. The underdogs of Renegades couldn’t manage to make an upset and would have to see themselves beaten and eliminated from the event after a 2-0 defeat to the Brazilian FURIA who now advance further.

mousesports never left Evil Geniuses any chances in their rendezvous at the IEM Cologne Play-in. The victory was established on Nuke with an outstanding performance from Robin "ropz" Kool, who went 38-17 in the 28 rounds it took mousesports to win 16-12.

On Inferno, it was David "frozen" Čerňanský who took control of the match. The Slovakian almost replicated the performance from ropz and helped his team win a clear 16-8 victory.

Team Spirit had to use all three maps to qualify. Against Sprout, they had won the first map but then went on to lose their own map pick. On Nuke, the two star players from Spirit, Nikolay "mir" Bityukov and Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov shined to help the team take the last rounds and seal the deal.

mousesport will have a tough opponent in the main tournament, where they will face Gambit, while Spirit will face Heroic.

The 18-year-old super talent Boris "magixx" Vorobiev from Spirit has, besides his modest age, already cemented his name at the top of CS:GO, with the young star playing a huge role for the Russian top team. magixx is mostly known for his insane rifling abilities, however, he can also do wonders with the powerful AWP. 

In a recent stream, magixx turned himself into a complete monster, as he managed to win a stellar 2v5 clutch where the talented player used the AWP to perfection. You can watch the fantastic play right here.

Team Spirit managed to grab their first victory in the prominent event following a dominant 2-0 victory over Imperial in Group B’s lower bracket. The Russians are now through to the lower semi-finals where they will face off against the winner of OG vs. Virtus.pro, while Imperial leaves the tournament on a 13-16th place and $4.000.

The action started on Imperial’s map pick of Mirage where the Brazilian were no match for Spirit. degster and company stormed to an 11-4 lead in the first half before they closed out the map by picking up 5 rounds in a row on the T-side in the second half.

On Dust2, Spirit once again showed to be way more prepared than Imperial, as they dominated them out of the server. The Russians closed out the map with an impressive 16-3 score thanks to mir and magixx who both were on fire, delivering 22 frags each to inspire Spirit to an impressive victory.

The Bulgarians from Fiend came very close to making the first upset at DreamHack Masters Spring. After having won Mirage, the two former Windigo players Kamen 'bubble' Kostadinov and Viktor 'v1c7oR' Dyankov had every chance to eliminate Team Spirit on Overpass with their younger teammates on Fiend. At 15-13, they had the chance after having planted the bomb but lost the 3vs4 situation. In overtime, they could see an ignited Abdul 'degster' Gasanov settle the score and force the match to be decided on Nuke.

Here it felt like, that Fiend had the lost momentum, that had carried them into almost winning the match. On the scoreboard, it translated into a 12-3 lead at the break for Spirit, where mir, magixx, and chopper all were making life tough for the Bulgarians.

Spirit made the last push on their CT-side to win the match and advance in the lower brackets, while Fiend is out after a very fine performance.

Gambit managed to secure a spot in the upper semi-finals at the prominent event following a confident victory over Fiend to send them down to the lower bracket. We clearly saw why the Russian squad is on top of the world rankings as they dominated Fiend out of the server without any problems. Hobbit played a stellar match and finished on top of the scoreboard with 23 frags and a 1.75 Rating.
