Players lock themselves in 2nd place in the group after victory against Liquid
Team Liquid was not able to overcome a strong CIS squad.
ESL Pro League Group C has come to a close, with the underdogs Movistar Riders beating group favorites, Players, Liquid, BIG, GODSENT, and Party Astronauts to end the group stage with a 5-0 record.
Players and Liquid were secured 3-1 records before Sunday. The CIS squad qualified with the second seed as they beat the North Americans in a 2-0 series with an impressive performance by sh1ro as the 20-year-old topped the scoreboard with a 1.72 rating and 105 ADR.
The series started on Liquid map pick of Dust2, where Players started on the defense and outplayed Liquid. Players gained the rounds and the economy as well, thanks to an outstanding performance from sh1ro. The remainder of the half completely went the way of Players, ending the half with a 14-1 scoreline. After halftime, Players quickly closed out the map winning the two first rounds to secure the first map of the series 16-1.
Overpass was up next after being selected by Players, who started strong and secured the opening round. Liquid went on a run in the latter part of the first half, winning the last three rounds to take the lead before halftime 8-7. The second half started with Players winning the first seven rounds to retake the lead. Liquid tried to make a comeback, but it was all too late as they only got three more rounds before Players closed out the map 16-11 and the series 2-0.
