FalleN: The Brazilian scene hasn’t been able to do anything close to what we did in the past
We have had a talk with the Liquid IGL about the state of Brazilian CS, and what it will mean for him to attend a Major on home soil.
The big South American mastodont of Brazil was once a heavy hitter in Counter-Strike with tons of titles and accolades under its belt, including two Major titles in MLG Columbus and ESL One Cologne 2016. However, in recent times scene has dropped off quite a bit, where both the impact of their players and teams on the top of the game has been weakened.
Two weeks ago, at BLAST Premier Fall Final, we got the opportunity to chat with the legend Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo to hear his thoughts about the current state of the Brazilian scene and its future prospect.
- The Brazilian scene has a couple of good teams. FURIA has been our best team lately, playing a quite interesting way of Counter-Strike – it’s always very cool to watch them play, but I just don’t think they are consistently good to become one of the best teams in the world. Even though they are doing a very good job in my book, FalleN said and continued.
- The other Brazilian teams are not there yet. I think we have some talents here and there and we have some new players who are showing a lot of potential, but creating a very good roster is something magical and you’ll need to have the right pieces for it. I think the Brazilians haven’t been able to do anything close recently as we did in the past – Just because the magic hasn’t happened yet.

In the future or near future, do you hope to create a new Brazilian super team like the one in the Luminosity and SK days?
- Even when I decided to join Liquid this year, I knew for a fact that I eventually would go back to a Brazilian team someday somehow. But it’s still too early to talk. It will depend on how Liquid is going to proceed next year.
What will it mean for you to attend a Major in your home country of Brazil?
- I have heard about a Brazilian Major for a while now. There was booked one for last year, but then Covid kicked in, which unfortunately cancelled the event. I have heard rumours about a Brazilian Major happening in the future. For me personally, it would be such a key moment in my career to be there. If it happens, it will for sure be one of my goals to attend, and I hope I can be there because it would be very special.
