Both Jakob "⁠jabbi⁠" Nygaard and Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund got off to a rough start for Astralis, as the two former Heroic players made their debut at the BetBoom Dacha 2023 tournament in Dubai.

Against Virtus.pro the two Danes ended at the bottom of the scoreboard after the first map of Inferno, where VP was in full control.

On Mirage Astralis won both pistol rounds to set themselves up for a much more competitive map. Here Victor "Staehr" Staehr stepped up and delivered a solid performance with several impactful rounds that swayed the map in favor of the Danes.

On Overpass Virtus.pro was favored going into the map, but Astralis got off to a good start leading 4-0 on their T-side. But then Petr 'fame' Bolyshev stepped up and won a 1vs2 clutch to ignite Virtus.pro back into the match. From here on the Russian roster did not look back and finished Astralis off with a 13-7 win.

Jakob "⁠jabbi⁠" Nygaard and Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund ended the match at the bottom of the scoreboard with a -32 in K/D combined.

With the loss, Astralis needs to win tomorrow against the loser of FURIA vs Spirit to stay alive in the tournament, where there is $180,000 up for grabs in first prize.

On paper Astralis' new lineup is looking stacked with talent, firepower, and a good mix of experience and eagerness to win titles. The addition of Martin "stavn" Lund and Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard could be the kickstart of a new era for the legendary Danish organization if everything pans out the right way. But how will the five players align in terms of roles and positions on the team? During an online Q&A with Astralis fans, Martin "stavn" Lund was asked the question about how he will slot into the team.

- For me personally, I have a lot of new things to attend to, but also some of the same things as I had in Heroic. From the outside, it's easy to see, and it's also something we've talked about as a team, that Benjamin [blameF] and I have had some of the same roles, and I just think we should keep an eye on that going forward. But for now, we are clearly in agreement on how it works. It's something I can see myself in, and something the team can see themselves in, stavn told the Astralis fans.

For the second time this year, Astralis has made roster changes to the team. The Danish organization has signed the two Heroic players Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund and Jakob "⁠jabbi⁠" Nygaard. The two players have been benched on Heroic after rumors had linked the two with a transfer to Astralis.

Christian Møss "Buzz" Andersen and Johannes "b0RUP" Borup are the two players that has been axed from the team that yesterday failed to qualify for the Royal Arena with a devastating loss to Heroic.

The move hardly comes as any surprise given the many rumors that had circulated after Heroic revealed the reason why the two players got benched on the Heroic roster. The big question was if it was Buzz or Staehr who would be moved to the bench.

b0RUP tenure at Astralis only lasted five months.

The past few months have been very turbulent

For both Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund and Jakob "⁠jabbi⁠" Nygaard the move to Astralis must have been a relief after they were called out publicly by Heroic for their disloyalty.

My journey with Heroic, spanning over four years, has been filled with unforgettable memories. I'm sincerely grateful for the fans' support, the dedication of those within and around the organization and, naturally, for all the many players I've had the privilege of sharing the Jersey with. In Astralis the two players will be reunited with their former Head of Performance in Heroic, Kasper Straube Hansen, who is now the Director of Sports at Astralis.

A big dramatic turn of events has put Heroic in a bit of turmoil. The Organization surprised most people by benching Casper "cadiaN" Møller earlier this month. Today the Organization made another move, as they have removed both Martin "stavn" Lund and Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard from the lineup. 

- After ESL Pro League, stavn and jabbi initiated a push to replace cadiaN, which came unexpectedly to both cadiaN and Heroic's management team. Mediation efforts were attempted, but the situation was brought to an ultimatum where Heroic had to choose between cadiaN and the rest of the team. stavn and jabbi agreed that if Heroic let cadiaN go, they would extend their contracts. With clear intentions from stavn and jabbi to extend, Heroic amicably allowed cadiaN to pursue a new path, Heroic writes before revealing a dramatic twist to the story.

- The same day stavn and jabbi were presented with new contracts they communicated having made future plans with Astralis. Their Heroic contracts had almost 10 months until expiration. While handling the short-term uncertainty and planning for a long-term solution, Heroic’s ambition is to bring stavn and jabbi back. Our performance staff have made a plan to support their potential return to the organization. We are open to discussing transfers to organizations with a professional approach and an understanding of our players’ market value.

 William "⁠sirah⁠" Kjærsgaard and Christoffer "⁠Chr1zN⁠" Storgaard has been called in as the replacement players for Heroic's matches at Roobet Cup, where they will play in a few minutes.

During the ESL Pro League S17 Group B upper bracket final, Heroic took upon MOUZ. 

Up 1-0 in maps but down 10-6 on the second map, Heroic shows a great example of playing against all odds. In a 2vs3 after-plant situation on the B site, two Heroic players with just pistols managed to take down all three players of MOUZ to steal away the round.

Heroic is currently the world's number one on the HLTV World Ranking list. With high hopes and great confidence, the young and talented roster is going into the IEM Katowice with trust in themselves.

After a well-fought victory over Complexity the Dane Martin "stavn" Lund is sure that they can be crowned as IEM Katowice 2023 champions.

- Everyone on the team believes that we can win this tournament. There's no clear favorite, I would say. G2 has been looking really strong, but also we haven't played them. Last time we played we won against them. For Heroic to go all the way and become IEM Katowice champions they first need to get past OG in their upper semi-final. A clash between two young squads with great firepower and two IGLs that can call well under pressure. The game will go live tomorrow at 16:00 (CET).

Heroic faced BIG in their last match at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups. The Winner of the game qualified for the Spring Final, and the losing team went to Spring Showdown. Heroic started out well after the first map as they took down BIG on their own map pick. BIG bounced back and secured a third map. During the decider 20-year-old Heroic star Martin 'stavn' Lund took down four players of BIG with just seven seconds left on the clock.

It has been a shaky start to 2023 for Heroic, who had a lot of momentum going into the year after a strong finish last year. But at BLAST Spring Groups the Danes have been strangely offbeat. Losses against EG and Vitality have seen some cracks in the Heroic foundation.

Today against BIG we again saw the two different faces of the Danes. On Vertigo Heroic simply destroyed BIG on their own map pick by winning 16-3!

But then things went sour. On Ancient the Danes showed a respectable T-side only trailing by 7-8 at the break, but on the CT-side they let BIG into the game. Florian 'syrsoN' Rische provided great impact to see BIG win the second map.

Inferno was left as the decider. Here it didn’t take Heroic long to return to the dominant style, that we saw on Vertigo. A 12-3 lead at the break was converted to a map win with Martin "stavn" Lund giving an lights-out performance.

Heroic is now qualified for the BLAST Spring Finals in Washington in June, while BIG will need to go through the difficult Showdown event to try and qualify.

Perched atop the HLTV rankings, the Major runners-up and current BLAST Fall holders come into the new season ready and raring to go after an exuberant end to 2022. With Jakob 'jabbi' Nygaard now fully integrated within the team, Heroic will look to continue their momentum and cling on to the number one spot as their biggest competitors continue to build back stronger. Casper 'cadiaN' Møller’s crew have accrued significant respect on their name and now must deal with the weight of expectation befitting the world's best. Can they survive under the pressure?

With their roster uncertainty continuing, no one will expect much to come from EG but the potential double header of and in-form Timothy 'autimatic' Ta and Vincent 'Brehze' Cayonte certainly whets the appetite and if EG come out swinging with a solid AWP signing, we really could be cooking with gas. Their showing at the Major wasn’t awful and Sanzhar 'neaLaN' Iskhakov is definitely one to watch with his combined fragging output and IGL talent. The only way is up for this ailing team, so with nothing to lose, let’s hope they can restore the pride of NA and give us some entertaining matches.

I don’t think I’m alone in the opinion that more needs to be shown from Vitality, the sum of their parts are far less than one would expect from the names on the roster and while their ESL Pro League 16 victory was impressive, something tells me it is only delaying the inevitable. I mustn't go much further without name dropping Mr Mathieu 'ZywOo' Herbaut, his talent is immeasurable, but I believe it’s Peter 'dupreeh' Rasmussen who holds the key to sustained success and Vitality needs him to maintain consistent performances to go far.

The return of the king, and a fresh face in Christian 'Buzz' Andersen, but will it be enough to haul the fraying remnants of a dynasty to new heights. This will be the much anticipated first look at the new Astralis, should we place them as underdogs or as a team that should cruise through due to the overall calibre of player they possess? It seems Benjamin 'blameF' Bremer will finally be getting some help and I am excited to see what they can cultivate as they begin their new era.

Martin "stavn" Lund shows once again why he is considered one of the best Counter-Strike players at the moment. In recent years, the 20-year-old rifler has been a key player to Heroic´succes. The young star took his team to second place during the IEM Rio Major 2022 and helped his team Heroic to win their first trophy of 2022 at BLAST Premier Fall Final on home ground. 

Since the break stavn has been grinding Faceit. During a Faceit match on Ancient "stavnmagi" showed off his impressive skills as he got 49 kills in one match. The young Dane secured the victory for his team in a 24-28 thriller.

Stavn and the rest of Heroic will be competing against the world's best when BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2023 kicks off in Copenhagen from Jan 19th - Jan 29th. 

2022 became the year that the players of Heroic could finally take the "Onliners" mark off their shoulders.

A Grand Final in IEM Rio and a win at BLAST Fall Finals in Copenhagen solidified Heroic's claim to be one of the top teams of Tier-1 Counter-Strike on LAN. The win against FaZe in Copenhagen was pivotal for the Danish roster, who finished the year as number 1 on HLTV's World Rankings.

- We have shown that we belong at the top of CS for a long time, but we never got over the hurdle of winning a big tournament. Casters, analysts, and the community always doubted if we could ever do it on LAN, right? So finally winning a big tournament on LAN just solidifies our own self-belief and gives us even more confidence.

We spoke with Casper "cadian" Møller about Heroic and their rise of form lately. In the interview, the in-game leader also talks about the pick of Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke as the stand-in player for Heroic at BLAST World Finals in Abu Dhabi.

It was actually my idea to bring him in. I was looking at the different players that we could get and what they would bring for the in-game chances and the outside dynamics. ... k0nfig has been great throughout the practices, so I am excited to see him in the official matches. Taking k0nfig is a little bit of a risk, but he has some x-factor, and I rather have him shooting ten in one game and then shooting 30 in the next game than someone who shoots 15 in two games. I know that if he is feeling it, he will perform really well.

On Sunday, Heroic announced that they will be fielding Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke at BLAST World Final as a substitute for Martin “stavn” Lund, who will get extra time off in this winter break to rest. That also means he won’t be traveling with the rest of the squad to Abu Dhabi, UAE, for the highly-anticipated BLAST Premier World Final event.

At the World Finals, k0nfig will be making his LAN return for the first time since his contract with Astralis was terminated in October following a controversial incident in Malta during ESL Pro League, where the 25-year-old Dane was involved in a fistfight. This will be a great opportunity for k0nfig who will have a chance to prove himself on the biggest stage of Counter-Strike.

Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen has been the centre of a dramatic dispute, which has proven to be much deeper and problematic than first assumed. The controversial coach has admitted his wrongdoings in the Spectator Bug Scandal, but he's also accusing several Heroic members of either knowing or helping him exploit the bug.

The entire itself case concerning HUNDEN can be a bit tough to understand and get a grip on. Therefore, we've decided to make a comprehensive timeline of events of all the events dating back to May 2020.

A timeline of events on the controversy around HUNDEN:

According to HUNDEN, there’s some discussions and debates within the Heroic roster whether to use the “Spectator bug” or not in May.

Heroic uses the infamous bug for the first time in a match against their countrymen from Astralis at DH Masters Spring EU. According to HUNDEN, numerous players, but not everyone, are aware of the in-game cheating.

Heroic make use of the cheat for the second time, now in a match against Spirit at Home Sweet Home 5. According to HUNDEN, the same players from the Astralis match knows about the cheating.

HUNDEN is being handed a 12-month ban by ESIC, owing to his involvement in the “Spectator Bug Scandal”. According to HUNDEN, the entire Heroic team, including the CEO at that time, Erik Askered holds a meeting to discuss the ban and how to handle the situation.

Allegedly, some players were ready to go public together with HUNDEN and admit their involvement and their knowing of the cheating. The rest said that they didn’t knew about the cheating.

ESIC reduces HUNDEN’s sentence from 12 months to 8 months, owing to his assistance in the investigation.

Heroic decide to keep HUNDEN on the team by moving him into an analyst role.

HUNDEN returns to his head coach role at Heroic after having served his ESIC ban. HUNDEN once again, states that the players did not know anything about the cheating when it happened.

HUNDEN goes public announcing that he won’t extend his contract with Heroic, as he “wishes to begin a new chapter of his career”. In the same statement, HUNDEN denies the rumours of him sharing material from Heroic’s stratbook with others.

Heroic announce that they have started to take legal actions against HUNDEN, owing to contract breaches from the coach. Heroic believe to have evidence of HUNDEN sharing “confidential and sensitive information from our strategy folder with a key individual at a major competitor”

HUNDEN goes public in an interview with TV2 Sporten, to express his disbelief of ESIC not having heard him in the investigation of him. In the TV2 Sporten article, it’s said that HUNDEN will receive a two-year ban by ESIC.

HUNDEN appear in a new TV2 Sporten interview, where he this time states that some of the Heroic players knew about the cheating and the use of “Spectator Bug” back in May 2020. HUNDEN says that he won’t mention any names “because he thinks it is up to the players themselves”.

HUNDEN receives his second ESIC ban. This time a two-year ban on the grounds that his actions were "engaging a behaviour that threatened harm to the reputation and competitive integrity of esports".

HUNDEN implicates Rene 'TeSeS' Madsen with the evidence presented to Danish TV2, that the Heroic player entered the server together with his coach, and was the only player who could have boosted HUNDEN to the position, that would trigger the coach-bug. He also reveals a chat log, where former Heroic player, Nikolaj ’niko’ Kristensen writes, that everybody on the team knew about the cheating.

ESIC confirms, that they have started an investigation against the Heroic players after HUNDEN has turned over the evidence to the Esports Integrity Commission.

ESIC clear four current or former Heroic members (cadiaN, TeSeS, stavn, b0rup) for any allegations brought forward by HUNDEN, as the Integrity Commission revel their final report in the case. 

- Upon investigating the conduct of these individuals, ESIC was unable to find anywhere near enough evidence to reasonably conclude that these four players were guilty of any offence under the ESIC Integrity Program, the report states. 

In the same report by ESIC, the former Heroic player Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen pleaded guilty after he admitted his complicity in the cheating exploits of HUNDEN. However, niko were only sanctioned with minor punishment, owing to ESIC believing he was "ruthlessly manipulated" by HUNDEN, his former coach.

After a long period without any news on HUNDEN it suddenly came to light that ESIC has decided to lift his ban nine months before time.

Scope.gg has once again revealed some fascinating facts from the BLAST Premier Fall Final event in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Heroic’s stavn got the highest number of wallbang kills throughout the event. A total of 15, as well as 17 kills through smokes. Should his PC be checked to see if there’s any ‘third party software’ running?

FaZe Clan’s ropz became the most accurate rifler of the event with an accuracy of 59.3%.

NiP’s REZ was the fastest sniper of the tournament with TTD (Time to Damage) of 199 ms. Meanwhile, s1mple was the slowest with TTD of 237 ms. TTD is basically the average time it took you from seeing the enemy player to dealing damage to them.

Heroic’s newest addition to the roster, jabbi, admired his skins for 47 minutes! Some players just can’t get enough of looking at their skins.

The Latvian finished the event with an impressive 1.29 rating, which was enough to secure him the MVP award for the tournament.

Helvijs "broky" Saukants was also awarded the MVP medal at IEM Katowice at the start of the year.

The Latvian fought off two other Baltic players at the top of the ratings of the event.

The runners-up at IEM Rio has done it again. Against Team Liquid Heroic was in complete control throughout the match and delivered a very impressive team performance to advance into the Grand Final.

Overpass was won after a good start on the T side for Heroic. An 8-7 lead was converted to a 16-10 win on the CT-friendly map. In the second half, it was Heroic’s star player Martin 'stavn' Lund who was the key player for the Danes, who could enjoy the roar from the Royal Arena, as they secured the first map.

Team Liquid picked Inferno as the next map. A troublesome playground for Heroic, who has lost four times in a row here, while the North American had won eight out of their last nine matches here.

The first half was all even, but it was Heroic who took the first step towards a map win with a strong push in the second half. Again it was stavn leading the pack. But Liquid was not done yet. The team has shown promising signs after the addition of YEKINDAR to the roster, and it was once again the Latvian who drove the team to success on Inferno. The NA team fought back and secured the map win after overtime.

Vertigo was chosen as the decider. A clear advantage for the Danes, who went straight to war with an excellent CT side. 11-4 was the score at the break. Liquid came back to 8-11, but then the party stopped. Heroic broke them with a Tec-9 round, and after that, it was game over.

The Danes will face the winner of FaZe vs Ninjas in Pyjamas in the Grand Final tomorrow.

At the BLAST Premier Fall Final event in Copenhagen, cadiaN’s troops from Heroic secured a victory in their opening matchup against Ninjas in Pyjamas after they turned around a 0-1 scoreline. The Danes showed a great level of Counter-Strike, which Ninjas in Pyjamas had a hard time keeping up with, especially on the decider of Overpass, where Heroic crushed the Swedes 16-4.

After the match, our reporter spoke with Heroic’s Martin “stavn” Lund about the match and his captain’s great calling on the server.
