On this day in 2014: Team LDLC won their first and only major
We take a look back in time, where a French roster overcame Swedish dominance to win a major.
It was still early days for CS:GO in 2014. The scene was heavily dominated by two Swedish teams, Ninja in Pyjamas and Fnatic. Both had won a major in a final against the other previously.
But to the surprise of everyone, a French team emerged on top at DreamHack Winther 2014. But it didn't happen without controversy.
In the Quarter-Final Team LDLC was facing tournament favorites from Fnatic. After a map win each, the decider map was Overpass. A new map at that time to the competitive scene.
The French team was cruising on their CT-side winning the first half 12-3. But then this happened.
A moment of history, that ended with Team LDLC advancing to the Semi-Finals after Fnatic refused to replay the third map.
In the Semi-Finals the Frenchmen made a 2-0 sweep against Natus Vincere, setting up a Grand Final vs. Ninja in Pyjamas.
