Ilya âm0NESYâ Osipov and G2 Esports have secured a spot in the semifinals of BLAST Premier Fall Final after an impressive 2-0 victory over Spirit.
The quarterfinal series delivered two thrilling maps, beginning with Dust2 and finishing on the iconic Mirage. As we've seen so many times before, G2âs star AWPer, m0NESY, stole the show once again with a phenomenal 1.50 rating.
After the match, we caught up with G2âs head coach, Wiktor âTaZâ Wojtas, to get his thoughts on the victory and G2âs performance.
Question: A 2-0 win over Spirit to kick off the playoff. Put some words on the match.
- It was a very hard game. I feel like Spirt learned their lesson.
What did you and the team talk about before making the comeback on the last map of Mirage?
- We looked back on our previous game on CT and spoke about what we struggled with. Then we made some changes and it felt really good.
What were these changes?
- Hey, I cannot talk about the kitchen. But Iâm just happy that we have Ilya [m0NESY] doing his work.
You mentioned m0NESY â he had a super matchâ talk to me about his performance today.
- Ilya is sick, and heâs playing sick. Hopefully, he continues to be sick.
What are some of the things the team are doing for him to perform this way?
- Everyone is doing a little bit for each other, and they are trying to set each other up really good. NiKo is doing a good job communicating. Mario [malbsMd] is a guy who wants to frag some more but he knows his role, and there is full commitment for everyone. I think thatâs why our superstars can shine.
Spirit started off this year crazy good winning IEM Katowice in a dominant style, but they seem to have fallen down a bit. Why do you think that is the case?
- They lack confidence. Other teams have more eyes on them now and have figured them out. They havenât changed their playstyle or at least adapted fast enough, and now they are in a little bit of trouble. They need to reinvent themselves.
So teams have thought them out?
- I think they are focusing and counting a lot on one player, and they won so much depending on one player, so now itâs hard for them to change and accept that.
From donk to ZywOo with Vitality waiting in the semifinal â How do you see that matchup?
- I canât wait, it will be a cracker. Dan [apEX] was laughing a lot at us when we met NAVI that we only got 9 rounds on both maps.
