Nine.
That was the total number of rounds Liquid managed to take off FaZe in last night’s quarterfinal at BLAST Premier Fall Final in Copenhagen.
Both on Inferno (13-6) and Mirage (13-3), Liquid was completely overwhelmed by Finn “karrigan” Andersen and his FaZe squad, leaving Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken’s men with no chance.
"Not very good team play"
According to Liquid’s Justin “jks” Savage, the loss was largely down to hesitation and disjointed team play, with FaZe ruthlessly exploiting their weaknesses. We caught up with the Aussie rifler for a quick chat about the dominant defeat, and to hear how his first few months have been since joining Liquid.
Question: A clear 2-0 loss against FaZe today – What went wrong today?
- I don’t really know to be honest. We played a bit scared on the first map and we adapted too late. On T side we fucked up some rounds, where we got confused. And I don’t think we had very good team play. On Mirage, we obviously didn’t do anything – they just pulled out their double-AWP and ran away with it. That was pretty much it, we couldn’t do anything about it.
What teamwork wasn’t working, as you mentioned?
- We had multiple ideas but we couldn’t settle one particular idea in a couple of rounds. Obviously, we lost all pistol rounds besides CT on Mirage, which makes it very difficult as well. But yeah, they just played a really good CT side on Mirage. That was tough. I would say we had a little bit of miscommunication today. There were also a couple of unlucky rounds, where we got spammed through the smoke – actually in some really important rounds, and after that, it kind of fell apart. But yeah, there were rounds where we couldn’t get on the same page.
We’re now around two months into this new Liquid project. How has it been so far?
- It’s been really good and I believe we’re on the right track. Today was obviously a little setback, because of our performance. We have to go back and find out where we went wrong, because if we can’t figure this out then it’s going to be pretty tough for us in the future.
You were out of the game for quite a while before joining Liquid. How has it been to be back?
- It’s been okay. Sometimes it’s a bit difficult to get back in the swing of it, and it’s also a new game. In this team, I play a bit more aggressively than I have done in my past teams, so I’m also trying to learn that as a player in the way the team wants me to do it. Of course, they made a big change when I came into the roster, changing the IGL, coach, and AWP – so it takes a bit to get used to but I feel both me and the team are on a good path. I just need to keep doing what I’m doing.
