In this series, we take a look at the teams that finished 2020 in the Top 20 rankings. Today we take a look at number 5.
Name:
Heroic
Origin:
Denmark
2020 have been a phenomenal year for Heroic, with the Danish team had ruled the entire Counter-Strike scene for weeks and months.
It was a hectic year for the Danes because, besides their outstanding performance in the Online Era, the season has contained a failed transaction with a huge Chinese esports organization and also an involvement in the disputed coaching bug scandal.
Roster:
Casper “cadiaN” Møller
Martin “stavn” Lund
Johannes “b0RUP” Borup
René “TeSeS” Madsen
Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen
Transfers in 2020:
In: TeSeS (Copenhagen Flames)
In: niko (OpTic Gaming)
In: HUNDEN (Coach)
Out: es3tag (Astralis)
Out: Snappi (TIGER)
Heroic’s promising rifler stavn have averaged a steller 1.13 rating throughout 2020
Highlight of the year:
In August, Heroic grabbed their biggest title in the history of the team, when they won the prestigious ESL One Cologne and the massive $150.000 prize earning. cadiaN’s troops dismantled the French superstars from Vitality in the Grand Final, locking down the otherwise unstoppable CS:GO prodigy ZywOo with a crushing 3-0 sweep.
Low point:
Back in April, Heroic acquired the then renowned coach Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen. However, it has been issued that the former MAD Lions coach has some skeletons in the closet. The Dane was among a great number of coaches involved in the controversial coaching bug scandal, which emerged in the late September and stunned the entire CS:GO world.
Heroic decided to keep HUNDEN in the organization, even though the 29-year old coach had received an 8-month ban for the use of the spectator bug. A decision that stands as a contradiction to for example mousesports who decided to release their banned coach Allan “Rejin” Petersen.
Heroic received heavy criticism for the decision by numerous people in the community, questioning the Danish organization’s morale and ethics.
Heroic suspend Nicolai "Hunden" Petersen.

And yes, I'm first and foremost talking about Heroic and ENCE, both Twista and HUNDEN were obviously huge factors to the success of their teams and are now "analysts" for the duration of the ban. When steel got banned for matchfixing he wasn't allowed to even coach teams.

The future:
It’s clear to see that Heroic has found their ideal line-up with a strong and intelligent IGL in cadiaN, a headshot machine in b0RUP, a vital rifler in niko and the two promising stars in TeSeS and stavn. A roster which has proven its livelihood and will be a top contender in 2021 if they can continue their development.
cadiaN and his soldiers’ first challenge of the year will be at IEM Katowice in February.
