To watch Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut play is to witness Counter-Strike in its purest, most effortless form. While others rely on raw aggression or mechanical grinding, ZywOo dominates through sheer intuitive genius. He is widely considered the most naturally gifted player to ever touch the game.
At 25, the French superstar for Team Vitality has redefined consistency. With four HLTV #1 Player of the Year awards (2019, 2020, 2023, 2025) and three Major titles, he stands as the pillar against which all other players are measured.

ZywOo and ropz celebrating another trophy with Team Vitality
Career History
ZywOo started playing competitive Counter-Strike in 2014, playing for the French squad dizLown. Over the next few years, he moved through several lesser-known teams, including Nevermind, E-Corp Bumpers, WySix Team, and against All authority (AAA). During this period, his performance gained attention, but it wasn’t until he joined Team Vitality in October 2018 that he truly stepped into professional play and onto the global stage. Under the Vitality banner, ZywOo quickly became one of the most highly regarded players in professional Counter-Strike.
Current and Former Teams
- dizLown (2014-2015)
- Nevermind (2015)
- E-Corp Bumpers (2016)
- WySix Team (March 2017 – September 2017)
- against All authority (AAA) (September 2017 – October 2018)
- Team Vitality (October 2018 – Present)
The Chosen One
Born in Lens, France, Mathieu’s path to Tier-1 was uniquely patient. While teams clamored for his signature as a teenager, his mother insisted he finish his BaccalaurĂ©at (high school diploma) before going pro. He dominated the semi-pro scene with aAa while studying, creating a mythical reputation before even playing a Tier-1 match. When fans started noticing that ZywOo was born on the exact release date of Counter-Strike (November 9th, 2000), the nickname “The Chosen One” was inevitable.
In late 2018, Team Vitality was built around him. The impact was instant. He didn’t just adapt to Tier-1; he owned it. In his very first full year (2019), he was named the #1 player in the world – the youngest ever to do so at the time.
In his early days in CS:GO, ZywOo battled with s1mple for the no. 1 spot on HLTV’s rankings. The two players won three awards each from 2018-2023, before donk finally broke the dominance from the two superstars in 2024.
In 2023, ZywOo and Team Vitality won the last CS:GO Major in history with a win on home soil in Paris.
2025: The King Reclaims His Throne
If 2024 was the year of the rookie sensation donk, 2025 was the year the master responded.
Coming off a #3 ranking in 2024, critics questioned if ZywOo could match the hyper-aggression of the new generation. He answered by evolving. He didn’t just frag; he closed out the biggest stages.
He led Vitality to a historic double-Major year, securing the BLAST.tv Austin Major in June and the StarLadder Budapest Major in December.
By the end of the season, he reclaimed the HLTV #1 spot, cementing his legacy as the defining player of the mid-20s era.

Playstyle Breakdown: The “Game Sense” God
Unlike the frantic entry-fragging of other stars, ZywOo’s game is defined by efficiency and intelligence.
1. The Perfect Hybrid
He is arguably the best AWPer in the world, yet his rifle stats rival the best entry fraggers. He switches between the AWP and AK-47 seamlessly depending on the economy and map spawn, making him impossible to counter-strat.
2. Positioning over Flicks
While he has elite aim, he rarely needs to use it for “impossible” shots because he is already looking where the enemy will be. His crosshair placement and understanding of timings allow him to get “easy” kills that are actually the result of 200 IQ reads.
3. Clutch Factor
ZywOo is the king of the 1vX. His heart rate never seems to spike. In late-round situations, he isolates 1v1 duels with surgical precision, often winning rounds that should be mathematically impossible.
Personality & Routine
ZywOo is famously laid back. Unlike players who grind 12 hours of FACEIT a day, he prioritizes quality team practice and mental reset. He is known as the “gentle giant” of the scene – humble in interviews and rarely involved in drama. His “born talented” reputation is legendary; teammates often joke that he can take a week off, come back, and drop 30 kills in his first game.
