[Updated] PGL Copenhagen Major Opening Stage Pick’em
Should you pick Cloud9 to go 3-0? We have made a guide for you, so you can that Diamond Coin!
It's finally here! Valve just released the new Pick'em game for the Copenhagen Major. And this time things have changed!
First of all, Pick'ems is now free to play for everybody with Prime Status. However, to complete challenges and earn rewards from each event stage, you'll have to activate your pass before the stage begins.
The game has changed slightly. Now you need to predict the exact results at the different stages.
There is also a leaderboard, where you can compare your results with your friends.
Only 0.3 percent got a Diamond Coin at the BLAST.tv Paris Major after a tournament with upsets after upsets.
In Copenhagen, we could be witnessing another tough Major to call with the number of smaller teams that have qualified for the event. You can see the distribution of the coins in this tweet.
If you are looking for the Elimination Stage Pick'ems, you can find them here.
Opening Stage Pick’em
16 teams are fighting for a chance to advance to the Elimination Stage via the Swiss Group Format. At the new Pick’ems we need to find all eight teams that we believe are going through plus the two teams going 0-3 in the Opening Stage. We also need to predict the excact outcome of which two teams will advance with a 3-0 score and the remaining six teams that will advance with a 3-1, or 3-2 score.
It’s important to notice, that we still only need five correct picks to upgrade our coin from the first step!
Teams to go 0-3:
We start by finding the two 0-3 teams. In the last four Majors, we have seen six out of eight teams exiting the tournament with a 0-3 record coming from South America, while one European and one Asian/Oceanian team has been knocked out similarly:
Stockholm Major: GODSENT, Sharks Esports
Antwerp Major: 9z Team, Renegades
Rio Major: 00 Nation, Imperial Esports
Paris Major: MOUZ, Fluxo
With that statistic in mind, we thought it would be a good idea to take a closer look at the SA teams in the first CS2 Major in history. In Copenhagen, there will be four South American teams in the tournament. FURIA, Imperial, paiN, and Legacy have all qualified through the Americas RMR. FURIA and Imperial won all three matches, while paiN and Legacy scraped through.
Opening matches at PGL Copenhagen Major:
Legacy vs FURIA
Apeks vs paiN
We believe that Legacy will be a good pick to go 0-3 at the tournament from the SA region.
The second pick will for many undoubtedly be Lynn Vision. The Chinese team has won one match against European teams during the past year (against 9INE), and will be the big underdog at the Copenhagen Major. Lynn Vision starts its journey in Copenhagen against Heroic.
Teams to go 3-0:
We now actually need to pick the two teams, that we expect to go 3-0. This is a big change from the previous Pick'ems, where it was all about getting the teams that advanced correctly to secure the five correct guesses.
We have picked Eternal Fire and SAW to advance in the 3-0 category. The Turks from Eternal Fire have been one of the best teams of 2024 whenever not playing top-tier opponents such as FaZe or G2 etc. In 2024 they have only lost to teams that are already qualified for the next stage of the Major. The Portuguese roster from SAW is on a 9-match winning streak beating teams such as Cloud9, Liquid, OG, Monte, and NIP recently. The only downside of this pick is, that SAW has done terribly in best of one's matches, but we hope the Iberian side can continue their impressive form in Copenhagen.
Teams to go 3-1 and 3-2:
We believe that Cloud9 will make it through, but they are rarely doing it without a hiccup or two. That is why we placed them in this category. TheMongolz is also a team to keep an eye on. The Mongolians have clearly been the best roster from Asia, and has looked competitive in their recent matches against European sides, while beating FURIA at the IEM Katowice Play-in.
Cloud9, ENCE, Apeks, Heroic, FURIA, TheMongolz
We wish you all the best of luck with your Pick'ems!
