The former Astralis player Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye announced his decision on Twitter.

- It is with a heavy heart, I am writing this, but as of right now, I have no longer the hunger and determination it requires to compete on top level, the 23-year-old Dane writes.

Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye ignited his CS:GO career with his move to Astralis in 2016. Here he won the ELEAGUE Major in Atlanta where he was named MVP as the youngest player in history. His career slowly started to decline after his shock move to North in 2018. 

He played on FaZe until the start of 2021 where he was benched. Lately he was involved in the creation of a new team called HYENAS, but the team never took off, and have yet to land a sponsor.

The KOVA Esports player outplayed his opponent Fessor from HYENAS in their 2-1 defeat against the Danish organization.

This move was one of the only highlights from the Finnish Lauri “pietola” Hietala is a game, where he didn’t play up to his best.

The young rifler delivered an outrageous clutch in a very difficult situation against four opponents who knew where he was. But somehow the Dane got himself and HYENAS the round victory with the defuse, after a couple of headshots.

The Dane is currently playing for HYENAS as he is inactive at Heroic, where he has been since April 2020, but in February the Danish roster chose to bench him, and a month later we saw him active at the HYENAS roster.

The newly created HYENAS-squad suffered this evening a devastating defeat at Flashpoint 3, when they lost 2-1 to the Poles from Anonymo. The result means that the Danish roster must head home empty-handed, as they already have lost one match against FunPlus Phoenix. Against Anonymo, the Danes showed a much better performance than the first game, with the thrilling battle going right down to the wire.

The HYENAS profile Philip "aizy" Aistrup has taken over the AWP role on the team, instead of his more natural role as a rifler. Something, the former North star haven't quite adapted to if you look at his Tweet following the elimination.

The Poles from Anonymo had a tough task in front of them today, as they clash against the profiles from HYENAS at the lower bracket of Flashpoint 3 – Just one day after their much-disputed rematch vs NIP.

Kamil “KEi” Pietkun and company didn’t show any signs of disappointment or mental weakness in the match. In fact, Anonymo showed immense mental powers by taking home two nail-biting maps on Nuke and Mirage, which went all the way.

Their second 16-14 victory on Mirage sealed the impressive win for the Poles, where they proved their worth as a promising CS:GO roster. The 2-1 defeat, means that HYENAS are being eliminated from the tournament, while Anonymo advance to the next round at Flashpoint 3.

After their defeat to the Polish roster from Anonymo, there is big pressure on Ninjas in Pyjamas to deliver, when they face the new Danish roster HYENAS tonight.

The losers of today's two matches will only gain 250 RMR points, which will make it difficult to qualify for the next Major tournament in Stockholm.

HYENAS, a new full-Danish CS:GO roster, got their official debut yesterday when they at Flashpoint 3 took on the profiled FunPlus Phoenix. The Danes who are led by the former North trio in Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye, Nicklas “gade” Gade, and Philip “aizy” Aistrup, did not get off to a strong start, as they suffered a crushing 2-0 defeat.

Following the defeat, the FPX player Martin “STYKO” Styk talked with the desk, where he uttered some heavy criticism towards HYENAS for using an alleged “loophole” to get invited to the event.

STYKO explains how HYENAS has used a recent Valve regulation to get an invite in front of other teams, by subbing in Rene “cajunb” Borg just to get enough points to get invited.

FunPlus Phoenix is ready for the next round at the upper bracket in Flashpoint 3, as the European side secured a confident win against HYENAS in their opener at the event. A match, where the Danish roster clearly struggled against a well-playing FPX squad, which the dominant 2-0 result also implied.

HYENAS, which consists of profiled players like Philip 'aizy' Aistrup and Markus 'Kjaerbye' Kjærbye, didn’t manage to pressure FPX at any point in the match. Jesse “zehN” Linjala and company first dominated the Danes on their map pick of Vertigo, with a following devastating 16-6 defeat on Inferno to take the victory.

FPX will meet Anonymo in the upper quarterfinals, which is set to be played at Thursday (21:00 CET).

The two sides have played against each other one time before, but this was before the two sides changed names. This was in March 2020, when GODSENT (FunPlus Phoenix) won 2—1 against North (HYENAS)
