Xyp9x speaks about his demotion on Astralis
The four-time Major winner has been replaced for the time being by Astralis Talent player Alexander "Altekz" Givskov.
The legendary rifler Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth may have played his last game for the main squad of Astralis – a team he’s represented since January 2016 – with the Danish organization having decided this Tuesday to send him down to their academy squad for the time being.
The news surrounding Xyp9x comes less than a week after Astralis’ failed Major qualification at the EU RMR, which also is the first thing he mentions in the statement put out by Astralis.
- An organization like Astralis must participate in all Majors and ultimately be able to compete for the title, Xyp9x states and continues:
- When we miss this opportunity for the second time in a row, it's clear we have to look at all options. I know the game and know how I contribute, but I'm also Astralis to the core and will do what it takes to move us forward.
With 19-year-old Alexander Alexander "Altekz" Givskov taking his place on Astralis, Xyp9x will now take a step down to help Astralis Talent in the upcoming matches. Something he looks forward to despite the circumstances.
- People close to me know that I am a team player, and even though I am now taking a break from the A team, I will always be ready to help the organization and the team that I have been a part of since the very beginning.
- There are many talented players on the talent team, and I look forward to helping them. I hope, of course, that my experience and knowledge from countless large international tournaments can lift the players even,
Whether or not Xyp9x has lost his roster spot on Astralis’ main team permanently is not known yet, however, it is a fact that he and the organization agreed on a four-year contract extension back in 2021 holding him at Astralis until 2025.
