G2 Defies the Odds to Win IEM Dallas 2024 Without Hooxi
An entertaining Grand Final sees G2 clinch their first trophy of the year
G2 Esports emerged victorious at IEM Dallas 2024, securing their first title of the year despite entering the tournament as 14-1 underdogs. Competing without their key player Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen, who was unavailable due to his sister's wedding, G2 showcased resilience and adaptability. Jacky "Stewie2K" Yip stepped in as a substitute, proving to be an excellent addition to the roster.
Throughout the tournament, G2 overcame formidable opponents including Falcons, MOUZ, Liquid, FaZe, 9z, and ultimately Vitality in the Grand Final to claim the championship and a $100,000 prize.
Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov was named the MVP of the tournament, boasting an impressive 1.35 rating across the 16 maps G2 played. Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin and Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut followed closely as the second-highest-rated players with a 1.30 rating each.
With this victory, G2 has positioned themselves for a potential IEM Grand Slam title, having now won two tournaments. To secure the $1,000,000 prize, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and his team must win two out of the next three ESL tournaments: IEM Cologne, Pro League Season 20, or IEM Rio. They face stiff competition from MOUZ and FaZe, who are also vying for the Grand Slam with two wins each.
