The MongolZ have made Counter-Strike history by becoming the first Asian team to qualify for the playoffs at a Major - a truly remarkable achievement that has sent shockwaves through the community.
The playoff ticket did not come easy for the powerful Mongolians, with the squad having defeated top-tier teams such as G2, MOUZ and lastly Heroic this Friday.
Can they go all the way?
CS expert Janko “YNk” Paunovic does not shy away from calling them contenders for the Major title.
- They are legit contenders to win the Major at this point in time, YNk said on the broadcast desk.
YNk continued by highlighting their impeccable Major run:
- They haven’t fluked their way to the playoffs. When people hear that an Asian team has made it to the playoffs at a Major, they would think that they have probably been helped by the seeding or bracket and that it was luck getting through. You wouldn’t have thought that it was because they played so good on the server that no one actually wants to play against them in the playoffs. It’s just so impressive.

On the broadcast desk following The MongolZ win against Heroic, Sudhen “Bleh” Wahengbam chimed in to praise the dominant Asians.
- Coming to the Major, I was of the opinion that just making it to the playoff would be a massive win for The MongolZ. That would legitimize their place in the rankings. A lot of questions could be raised: ‘Are they really a Top 10 team?’. This has proved it.
- But for them… ‘Babe, you are there. Just go for it. Screw it.’ For every win you get it just pushes you further and further towards doing something miraculous. Just go for it, Bleh stated on the desk.
