Eternal Fire captain after advancing: We have the potential to be tier 1
The experienced Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli has big hopes for the Turkish side, following Eternal Fire's 3-1 campaign in the opening stage at the Major.
Eternal Fire has been around the Counter-Strike scene since 2021, yet the Turkish super team has not yet managed to break into the upper echelons of the game.
However, this may change soon if you ask their captain and in-game leader, Engin “MAJ3R” Küpeli, who just led Eternal Fire to the next stage at PGL Major Copenhagen after beating GamerLegion.
In a post-match interview with PGL, the 33-year-old veteran touched on the achievement but also their goal to become a top-tier team.
- We’re very happy [on qualifying for the next stage] but also sad. Because I don’t feel like we played very well, but we won. But as you said, it’s been six years since my last Major, and going to the Legend stage now is obviously very good for us. (…) We started Overpass really sleepy. That map was very, very bad. But I’m proud of the guys that we came back and showed a strong mentality.
- We can’t play the best Counter-Strike every day. We try to be a tier 1 team, and we have the potential to be a tier 1 team – and we are on our way. (…) I just think we’re fighting, fighting, fighting, and I’m just happy that even though we didn’t play our best CS that we still won. The good teams are those who win even when they have a bad day, MAJ3R said to James Banks and PGL.

With the victory and 3-1 run, Eternal Fire join Cloud9 and Heroic as the three first teams to make it out of the Opening Stage in Copenhagen. On their way, MAJ3R and company took down the likes paiN, TheMongolz and lastly GamerLegion this Tuesday.
