G2 led 12-9 on their own Inferno pick and had Aurora down to two players in round 22, but woxic’s ace and a 4-2 overtime sent the series to Aurora, after a 13-11 on Cache. G2 have now lost all four of their maps at PGL Masters Bucharest by a combined nine rounds, and their next defeat ends the tournament for them.
Nine rounds. That is the total margin across the four maps G2 have played at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026: 11-13 on Nuke and 19-22 on Dust2 against NAVI on Saturday, then 11-13 on Cache and 14-16 on Inferno against Aurora on Sunday. Not one of them got away from G2, and not one of them was won.
Sunday’s was the most painful of the four. G2 were one round from tying the series on the map they picked themselves, with a 2v5 in front of them, and they did not win another round in regulation.

The round that turned Inferno
G2 picked Inferno for a reason. It was one of their better maps over the past three months, with seven wins from 11, and it was the map where they beat Aurora 13-5 at BLAST Open Porto in August. For a half, it looked like the right call. G2 went into the break 8-4 up, stretched that to 10-5, and at 12-9 they had their opponents down to two players in round 22.
woxic then killed all five of them. kyxsan was still alive in the middle of the map but never got involved, so the Turkish AWPer took the round on his own, entry to the last kill.
The ace broke something. Aurora won the next two rounds to force overtime, and G2 took only two of the six rounds that followed. kyxsan added an ace of his own in overtime, in a round where Aurora had fallen behind in numbers, and woxic’s AWP had the final say in the last round. He finished Inferno 28-16, the best line on the server.
Two anchors on Cache
Cache, Aurora’s pick, had been a weak spot for G2, who had won only one of their four Cache maps in three months. They still led 4-0 and won both pistol rounds, and their B site held for much of the first half because HeavyGod kept winning duels there, starting with a triple kill using dual Berettas in the very first round. He ended the map 20-17 with 91.8 ADR.
Aurora’s own anchor was better. Jimpphat finished Cache 21-12, with triple kills on the B site in back-to-back rounds, and HLTV named him player of the match across the series at 42-28. Up front, XANTARES answered a pre-match conversation about his slump with 20 kills, 98.0 ADR and eight wins from ten opening duels on the map.
G2 still dragged Cache to the last round. MATYS won a clutch on the B site to make it 11-12, before Wicadia took three kills in round 24 to close it.
huNter- on overthinking
The common thread in G2’s four defeats is not a lack of firepower. Every one of their players has had big rounds in Bucharest. What keeps failing is the round after a mistake, the retake that comes too late, the rotation nobody calls. On Inferno, G2 lost one round by switching sites with ten seconds left and never getting the bomb down, and another by rotating away from the site Aurora were about to hit.
In an interview PGL aired between the maps, captain huNter- put it in his own way. Asked what was missing, he said it was confidence and trust in each other, and that the players were overthinking a lot. He also said r1nkle, who replaced SunPayus as the team’s AWPer, needs more time after arriving from a benching at NiP with his confidence badly hit, and that his first advice to him was to stay away from comments and forum threads.
The second half of Inferno showed it. G2 won eight of 12 rounds on the attack, then only four of 12 on the CT side, where coach sAw spent his second timeout trying to stop the slide.
It fits a longer pattern. G2 have lost four of their last five series, including the 1-2 to PARIVISION that ended their ESL Pro League Season 24 in 12th to 14th place.
Monday decides it
The loss puts G2 on no wins and two defeats, with TYLOO and 9z, and Monday’s best-of-three in the third round is a straight elimination match. They need three wins in a row to reach the playoffs. The defeat costs them nine points in HLTV’s version of Valve’s Regional Standings, where they stay tenth. Their Major place is not at risk, but next year’s invites are: before the series, HLTV’s simulator gave G2 a 64.0% chance of an IEM USA 2027 invite, falling to 57.7% with a loss.
For the defending champions, it is a first win in Bucharest after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to The MongolZ. Aurora join Liquid, The MongolZ, Spirit, Nemiga and MOUZ on one win and one loss, gain 13 points and stay fifth in the standings. They won both maps by two rounds, which is also roughly the gap between a team that is finding answers and one that is still looking for them.
