The big Halloween update for Apex Legends is finally live, and it’s packed with new features, spooky visuals, and one of the biggest balance changes to date. From an Ash nerf that shook the meta to new Wildcard perks, a revamped Kings Canyon After Dark, and the Mad Maggie Mythic skin, this update has everything fans could ask for.
Massive Ash nerf confirmed
Players first noticed something strange when Ash’s dash distance suddenly felt shorter after the latest patch. Respawn soon confirmed the change, reducing Ash’s dash speed by 30%.
“Ash has been dominant for much of the year,” Respawn stated. “Ever since her Dash passive and kit improvements, she has been above the rest of the roster. We’ve tried to rebalance her without touching her Dash, but this change finally brings her speed down to where it should be.”
Since the nerf, Ash’s pick rate has dropped to 10%, down from nearly double that number the week before. While some players are relieved to see her toned down, others are already turning their attention to the 30-30 Repeater, which many believe might be next in line for a balance pass.
Raise Hell event and Kings Canyon after dark
The Raise Hell event launched shortly after, bringing with it one of the best Halloween updates Apex has ever seen.
The highlight is the return of Kings Canyon After Dark, now featuring a river of blood, floating Nests, and a completely new skybox filled with planets. The map also hides fun seasonal details, like:
- Loot bins that release bats or Titanfall’s zombie grunts
- Gravity Cannons and pads that scream when used
- Halloween lighting across every POI
- EVO orbs shaped like pumpkins
It’s easily one of the most visually striking seasonal maps in years, balancing darkness with great visibility and eerie design touches.
New Wildcards: Demons vs Reapers
The Wildcard system has received its biggest rework ever, now split into two factions: Reapers and Demons. When you first use a Replicator, you must choose your side, and that choice lasts the entire match.
Reaper Wildcards focus on speed and aggression:
- High Velocity: Constant movement speed boost (like a permanent Bangalore passive).
- Monstrous Strength: Increased outgoing damage for all weapons, punches, and abilities.
- Drain Gain: Restores health with every hit, creating a lifesteal effect.
Demon Wildcards emphasize power and control:
- Critical Roll: Adds a critical hit chance to your shots.
- Speedy Charge: Faster reload and healing times.
- Woolrunner: Brings wall-running back for a limited time.
While both sets are powerful, players agree the Reaper Wildcards dominate the meta. Combining High Velocity, Monstrous Strength, and Drain Gain turns any Legend, especially Mad Maggie, into an unstoppable force.
Halloween mythic and skins
The Mad Maggie Prestige skin headlines this event, available as the top milestone reward. It features a brutal finisher and a unique cell-shaded visual effect on Tier 2, where Maggie’s spikes have a stylized cartoon outline that changes based on viewing angle.
Unfortunately, this effect disappears on the Tier 3 version, but it’s still one of Respawn’s most creative visual experiments yet, and might hint at future cell-shaded skins coming to Apex.
Other standout skins include:
- Demon Horizon and Caustic, top-tier Halloween designs.
- Last Gasp Kraber, one of the most popular weapon skins in this event.
Mythic weapon renames
Respawn also renamed several Mythic weapons with horror-themed titles:
- Hemlok → Chest Burster
- Rampage → Killing Spree
- Kraber → Evil Eye
- Peacekeeper → Rest in Peace
Free Halloween rewards
Players can earn free rewards through the Raise Hell challenge tracker by collecting pumpkins in matches.
Free items include:
- 1 Event Pack (1,000 pumpkins)
- 1 Epic Pack
- 1 Halloween Tracker Set (800 pumpkins)
- 50 Crafting Metals and 10 Battle Pass Stars
Respawn also confirmed that the Reward Shop will reset later in the event, bringing back another free Event Pack for all players.
