Map rotation explained
Battle Royale rotation
In Apex Legends, three of the five large maps rotate every 60 to 90 minutes, offering variety in gameplay and strategy. Ranked Leagues feature two maps per split, with the current map pool depending on the season.
When a new map or major update launches, Respawn temporarily keeps it as the only map in rotation for one to two weeks so players can learn its layout.
Mixtape rotation
Mixtape playlists rotate between the six small maps, ensuring a constant change of scenery for fast-paced modes.
Town Takeovers
Town Takeovers are limited-time updates that add Legend-themed points of interest to existing maps. These areas often arrive with events or seasonal content.
Some iconic Town Takeovers include:
- Octane’s Gauntlet on Kings Canyon
- Rampart’s Big Maude on World’s Edge
- Pathfinder’s Fight Night on Olympus
- Crypto’s Map Room on Kings Canyon
Town Takeovers not only refresh map layouts but also celebrate Apex Legends’ lore and characters.
Apex Legends maps evolution over time
Each major season introduces either a new map or a map update (MU) for an existing one. Respawn regularly adjusts loot zones, POIs, and traversal routes to keep matches balanced.
For example:
- World’s Edge has seen multiple reworks since its release, adding new areas like Harvester and Climatizer.
- Olympus received large-scale updates with the Icarus ship and Phase Driver.
- Kings Canyon remains the most frequently updated map, with new Town Takeovers nearly every year.
Why Apex Legends maps stand out
Apex Legends maps are designed with mobility, verticality, and environmental interaction in mind. Tridents, Gravity Cannons, Zip Rails, and Phase Runners make each battleground distinct, offering players endless tactical possibilities.
Whether you prefer the chaos of World’s Edge or the open landscapes of Storm Point, each map encourages different strategies and Legend combinations.
