G2 arrived at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 as one of the ten teams invited on their Valve ranking and leave it in joint last place. A 2-1 defeat to South American qualifiers DENDELE, ranked 33 places below them, completed a Swiss run of three losses and one map won out of seven.
All four teams that came through the qualifiers, Nemiga, Liquid, TYLOO and DENDELE, have won at least one series in Bucharest. G2 have not. They go out alongside 9z in 15th to 16th place, worth $12,500, while teams they were expected to pass are still playing on Tuesday.

From close calls to no contest
For two days, G2 could point to the margins. They lost four maps by two to four rounds, against NAVI and then Aurora, and the case for a team that was nearly there still held. Against DENDELE, two of the three maps were not close at all.
- vs NAVI: Nuke 11-13, Dust2 19-22
- vs Aurora: Cache 11-13, Inferno 14-16
- vs DENDELE: Nuke 5-13, Ancient 16-14, Inferno 5-13
Over the seven maps G2 won 81 rounds and lost 104. On Nuke and Inferno on Monday they did not win a single round after half-time, losing both second halves 6-0.
Nuke was a gamble that failed. G2 had banned it in 86% of their chances over the past three months, and before the opener against NAVI the core of this team had not played it since Snax was in the lineup. DENDELE picked it, won seven rounds on the T side and closed it 13-5.
Inferno hurt more. It is a map G2 had won 58% of the time over the past three months, on 12 maps, and they had the decider there after a comeback on Ancient. DENDELE won the first half 7-5, took the pistol round and the six rounds that followed.
One player above water
The only map G2 took came from HeavyGod. From 6-12 down on their own Ancient pick, he finished with 31 kills and 111.1 ADR, scored an ace on a G2 broken buy and dragged the map to overtime, where r1nkle won a one-against-two and G2 closed it 16-14. On the other two maps he had 9 and 8 kills.
Across the three series, HeavyGod is the only G2 player with more kills than deaths, 129 to 125. The rest of the team finished well short:
A slide that started in September
Bucharest is the low point of a run that began with a final. G2 reached the final of FISSURE Playground 3 in September and lost it 0-3 to Legacy. In the seven series since, they have beaten only ShindeN. ESL Pro League Season 24 ended in the group stage at 12th to 14th, and this event ends one step lower.
The roster change behind it is hard to ignore. r1nkle joined at the end of June after two months on the NiP bench and replaced SunPayus as the AWPer. SunPayus made his debut for FUT in Bucharest and was part of the first team through to the playoffs, after FUT beat Vitality earlier on Monday.
The team’s own words over the weekend pointed the same way. huNter- said between maps against Aurora that the players lacked confidence and trust in each other and were overthinking. After that loss, coach sAw told HLTV the team were “stagnating, or maybe even took a couple of steps backward”, and we wrote on Monday how little comfort he took from the close scores. The series against DENDELE gave him no reason to change his mind.
Safe for Singapore, and back on stage next week
The damage stops short of the Major. G2’s invitation to PGL Major Singapore 2026 is secure, and the defeat costs them 25 points in Valve’s Regional Standings without moving them from tenth. Their next event is IEM Beijing 2026, which starts on 2 November, the same day Valve takes its snapshot of the standings for the Major invitations.
DENDELE close in on a Major place
For DENDELE, the win was worth far more. The Brazilian side had lost all four of their maps in Bucharest by five rounds or fewer and won one pistol round out of eight before Monday. Against G2 they won five of six pistols and both of their second halves 6-0. doc was the best player on the server with 59 kills and 96.7 ADR, and he won Inferno’s 11-5 round alone at B, taking G2’s attackers one at a time while flashed.
They also recovered from losing Ancient from 12-6 up. According to HLTV’s projection, the win is worth 56 points in Valve’s standings and lifts them from 43rd to 34th, and its simulation put their chance of a Major invitation at 86% before the series and 98% with a win. One more defeat on Tuesday ends their run in Bucharest.
After three Swiss rounds, FUT Esports and BetBoom are through to the playoffs. Vitality, NAVI, Liquid, Spirit, MOUZ and Aurora are on two wins and a loss, and DENDELE join The MongolZ, Nemiga, Legacy, FURIA and TYLOO on one win.
