MOUZ secured a 2-0 victory against Team Spirit at ESL Pro League Season 24. Following the match, in-game leader Dorian “xertioN” Berman and head coach Dennis “sycrone” Nielsen discussed the tactical preparation that allowed them to neutralize Danil “donk” Kryshkovets. The interview offered a precise look at how one of the prominent teams in Counter-Strike approaches the challenge of playing against the highly rated Russian player.
Utility and pattern recognition
Rather than challenging donk directly in aim duels, MOUZ relied on heavy utility usage and positional anticipation to limit his impact on the server. xertioN explained that trying to out-aim him is rarely a winning strategy for most players.
I always take it as a task to try to bully him a little bit with utility especially because with aim you’re not going to win most against this guy,” xertioN said.
The MOUZ in-game leader pointed out that donk’s youth presents tactical opportunities for experienced opponents. By analyzing heat maps, the team was able to predict his movements and disrupt his timings during the series.
He has definitely a lot of flaws in his game in terms of timings because he’s still very young,” xertioN stated. “And while he’s absolutely amazing, there is definitely things you can abuse against players like him.
Head coach sycrone confirmed the strategic focus, adding that the team prepares to deny comfort and space to anyone trying to take map control, applying the same aggressive mid control principles they use against other teams.
Redefining the in-game leader role
The conversation also covered xertioN’s positioning as an in-game leader. He occupies active, rotational roles that are traditionally reserved for star players, such as middle on Ancient and outside on Nuke. sycrone compared this setup to basketball, where the primary playmaker is often the most engaged player on the court, rather than a passive participant.
xertioN expressed his ambition to change the perception of the in-game leader position. He emphasized that while he relies on unselfish teammates to secure high-impact areas, he expects himself to contribute heavily to the scoreboard.
I want to create a legacy of an IGL that is not a burden,” xertioN said. “At the end of the day, I also have to provide some kills when I play these rotations on CT side.
Looking ahead at the rest of the tournament, the MOUZ camp remains confident. Both xertioN and sycrone stated they expect Team Vitality to defeat Falcons in their upcoming match, with xertioN expressing a strong desire to face the French-led squad later in the event.
