Highlights from PGL Cluj-Napoca quarter-finals

Falcons and FURIA both leave the tournament with disappointing 5th-8th exits.

PARIVISION beat Falcons for the second time

After defeating Falcons with a stand-in at the BLAST Bounty, the Russian team helmed by Dzhami ‘Jame’ Ali has embarrased the international superteam once again.

Falcons dropped a 3v1 on the opening map of Dust2, which cost them the map. Despite winning the second map of Mirage easily, the decider of Ancient went PARIVISION’s way after they won a force buy round after losing the pistol.

Despite a huge performance from Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovac, Falcons leave Romania with another disappointing exit.

MOUZ silence NAVI’s home crowd

NAVI came into this series as the crowd favorite, having Romanian Mihai ‘iM’ Ivan in their ranks.

They won the first map of Ancient in close fashion, with a huge performance on the CT side to recover a 4-8 deficit.

The next maps were a different story. MOUZ destroyed NAVI’s defense on Inferno, and closed out easily. On the decider of Mirage, MOUZ’s dominance continued, and they also closed out the clutches when needed.

Adam ‘torzsi’ Torzsas, sniper on MOUZ, took the time to taunt the crowd on their way to the semi-final.

ZywOo shines to eliminate Aurora

As predicted yesterday, Vitality opted to ban Anubis against Aurora. Aurora did not have the courage to pick Ancient, opting for Inferno instead.

This backfired, as Vitality showed why they have only two losses on Inferno in their last eight outings. On Overpass, Vitality’s pick, Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut and Shahar ‘flameZ’ Shushan were truly unstoppable, helping secure an absurd 9-3 T half.

Vitality closed with some difficulty, securing a semi-final spot.

TheMongolZ shock resilient FURIA with lackluster YEKINDAR

The biggest upset was left to the final series of the day, as theMongolZ took down the #2 in the world with a rookie in their ranks.

Anarbileg ‘cobrazera’ Uuganbayar was the top-rated player of the series with a 1.34, including a 13-3 trouncing on Mirage.

In fact, this series looked poised to end in a dominant 2-0 for TheMongolZ, if not for an admirable comeback on Dust2 from FURIA.

The decider was needed, which proved TheMongolZ’s firepower on Nuke. Every player went positive in K/D to narowly beat a FURIA that seemed impossible to put away.

Mareks ‘YEKINDAR’ Gaļinskis had a difficult series, averaging only just over 10 kills per map. The firepower of TheMongolZ was enough to take over this match from FURIA’s grasp.
