M80 delivered one of the most dominant performances of the StarLadder Budapest Major so far as they crushed NRG in a one-sided 2-0 series to secure their place in Stage 2.
From the opening rounds of Dust2 to the final moments on Mirage, the North American squad controlled every part of the game, allowing NRG only nine rounds across two maps.
M80 vs NRG
Map 1: Dust2 (NRG’s pick)
The American showdown for a spot in Stage 2 began with M80 racing to a fast 3-0 lead. Their streak continued as they extended the advantage to 6-0 before NRG finally got on the board with a well-executed B-split to make it 6-1.
M80 kept pressing as SLAXZ- delivered several strong AWP rounds, pushing the score to 9-2. NRG tried to fight back, but M80 reached double digits with ease, leaving NRG little room for a comeback as the half ended 10-2.
NRG started the second half well by winning the pistol and the conversions to close the gap to 10-4. But M80 stole back momentum with a pistols-only round highlighted by two huge Deagle shots from swisher, stretching the lead to 11-4.
NRG refused to fold and reduced the deficit to 11-6, but M80 regained control with a clean B-site post-plant to reach match point. They closed Dust2 shortly after, taking a convincing 13-7 win on NRG’s pick and moving one step closer to Stage 2.
Map 2: Mirage (M80’s pick)
M80 carried their pace into Mirage with a strong A-take to win the T-side pistol. They followed up for 2-0, and once NRG had rifles, M80 split the A-site again for 3-0. The pistols posed no threat as M80 moved to 4-0 and quickly 5-0 with another well-executed A hit.
NRG finally found a lifeline with a half-buy win, but M80 immediately struck back for 6-1. A flying MAC-10 entry from Lake forced NRG into a save as M80 climbed to 7-1.
NRG had no answer for the pace, and M80 pushed the lead to 10-1, looking set for a quick sweep. NRG managed to grab the final round of the half, but still trailed 10-2.
M80 closed the series in style with a dominant CT-side, winning the pistol with confidence and shutting down both follow-up rounds while allowing only two kills. They sealed Mirage 13-2 and the series 2-0, becoming one of the next teams to qualify for Stage 2 of the StarLadder Budapest Major.
