VALORANT Patch 12.06 Notes: Wayle Nerfed, Viper Tweaks, and Faster Flexing

VALORANT Patch 12.06 goes live today, and while it is a relatively lightweight update compared to the massive shifts in 12.05, it brings a highly requested balance change to the game’s newest dominant force: Wayle.

Alongside agent tweaks, Riot has finally addressed a major community gripe regarding movement speed while using “Flexes” mid-round. Here is the complete breakdown of everything you need to know before you queue up.

Agent Updates: Wayle Gets Grounded

The centerpiece of Patch 12.06 is a direct target on Wayle’s ability to reactively halt pushes without any personal risk.

Wayle (Nerf)

  • Saturate: Changed from an instant cast to an equip cast.
  • Impact: Previously, hitting your ability keybind would instantly throw Saturate, allowing Wayle players to reactively dump utility the millisecond they saw an enemy. Now, the ability functions like a Raze Paint Shells (grenade). You must press the key to equip the item in your hand, and then left-click to actually throw it. The developers stated this forces Wayle players to coordinate with their team and anticipate pushes, rather than relying on instant, risk-free reaction times.

Viper (Adjustment)

  • Viper’s Pit (Ultimate): The toxic gas will now spread much more consistently around complex map geometry.
  • Impact: While most players won’t notice a massive visual difference, this update strictly removes the frustrating “failure to cast” bug that occasionally occurred when trying to pop the ultimate in tight or uneven spaces.

Yoru & Neon (Updates)

  • Yoru: Received a few new voice lines to expand on the current lore. No mechanical changes.
  • Neon: Despite the community rumors and recent developer tweets, the highly anticipated Neon balance changes are not in Patch 12.06. They are still actively in development for a future update.

System Changes: The “Flex” Movement Buff

If you are someone who constantly spans your Flexes while rotating, you are finally getting a buff.

Historically, equipping a Flex mid-round hard-locked your movement to “ability speed,” which is roughly 90% of your maximum movement speed. This meant you were actively slowing down your rotations just to show off. In Patch 12.06, Flex movement speed has been buffed to match knife movement speed (100%). You can now rotate and Flex without sacrificing any tactical efficiency.

UI, SFX, and Bug Fixes

Rounding out the patch are a handful of aesthetic and backend improvements, largely focused on cleaning up the massive UI overhaul from previous patches.

  • End-of-Game Screens: The Victory and Defeat screens have received a fresh UI layout, specifically regarding how the final score is displayed.
  • New Sound Effects: Accompanying the visual updates are new, punchier sound effects for the match conclusion screens.
  • Bug Fixes: A massive sweep of bug fixes targeting the recent HUD UI changes, ensuring buffs and debuffs display correctly on the left and right sides of your screen without overlapping.

FAQ: VALORANT Patch 12.06

Did Neon get nerfed in 12.06? No. While developers have confirmed changes are coming for Neon, they were not shipped in this patch.

How does the Wayle nerf work? Wayle’s Saturate is no longer instant. You now have to equip the ability first (holding it in your hand) and then click to throw it, adding a slight delay and increasing the risk of getting caught off guard.

What changed with Flexes? You no longer lose movement speed when using a Flex. Your character will now run at full knife-speed, completely removing the 10% speed penalty.
