Abyss has returned to the map pool, and mastering it is key for climbing in ranked. This guide covers essential strategies, tips for every agent class, and advanced plays to give you an edge.
Push mid for early information

Pushing mid is high-risk, high-reward, especially for agents like Chamber and Yoru who can retreat safely. Controlling mid early provides valuable information on enemy rotations and can allow for free picks while attackers rush between sites.

Chamber: excels at mid aggression due to his precise headshots and ability to rotate quickly.

Yoru: uses teleporters to confuse enemies and create openings for aggressive plays with teammates.
Site-specific planting strategies

On B site, the default plant should be on the cliff edge. Stand at the edge, facing outwards, to ensure visibility of the diffuser from multiple angles. Planting anywhere else can make retakes extremely difficult.
Tip: Controllers should coordinate smokes to protect planting agents and control Tetris or top gen positions for crossfire opportunities.
Controller positioning and turtle smokes
Turtle smokes help create safe zones on B site, allowing defenders or duelists to peek or hold advanced positions. Place smokes at choke points and top gen to protect against pushes and create one-way sightlines.
Controller role: adjust smoke placement to support teammates and prevent attackers from freely entering sites.
A site control
A site is a critical power position on Abyss. Losing control often means the round is effectively over. Duelists should dive into heaven with proper support from controllers, using smokes and flashes to secure and maintain control.

Cypher: can use trips and cams to control A site without pushing onto site.

Vyse: can stall attackers with poison orbs while holding mid control.
Using vents for pressure

Attackers can use vent paths to threaten heaven control or split defenders’ attention. Lurkers can take these routes to create surprise engagements and deny defuses while staying hidden.
Tip: moving silently through vents can allow for easy picks and rotations without exposing your position.
Lurking and tripwires
Defenders should use mid lurks to monitor rotations while tripping areas like A or B. This helps contain enemy movements and sets up crossfires. Rejoining teammates through windows allows for effective post-plant plays.
Tip: plan lurks so trips cover both flanks, using mid control to pivot quickly to B or A as needed.
Sentinels and flank control
Holding flanks on Abyss is challenging. Players like Cypher and Vyse can use trips to cover attackers from mid while still supporting site holds. Lurkers need to balance mid control with the ability to cover both A and B rotations.
Tip: use trips strategically to contain attackers while maintaining map presence, especially during post-plant scenarios.
Abyss remains a complex and high-impact map in Valorant. Push mid for intel, plant on cliff edges for maximum visibility, and use controller utility effectively. Lurking, vent plays, and heaven control are crucial for both attack and defense. Implementing these strategies will give you an advantage over opponents and improve your ranked performance.
