Valve changes RMR format prior to Paris Major
A new path to the Majors has been revealed by the developers from Valve.
Valve has decided to make changes to the way teams qualify for Major championships. The changes were revealed this Wednesday by Valve, along with a new update to CS:GO.
According to Valve, the biggest change to qualifying for the Major is related to the fact that there will be a closed qualifier for the RMR events. Before the current change, teams that wanted to qualify for these events only had to make their way through the open qualifiers, but this will now just be the first step on the path to Major championships.
The new changes will already be in effect for the next tournament in the category, which is the BLAST Paris Major 2023. This means that the RMR tournaments will be composed of teams who get a direct invitation, something that has already happened until now, and also those who qualified through the closed qualifier.
“Previously teams entered the RMRs by direct invitation, or through a series of open qualifiers. For paris, some teams who aren’t directly invited will get to skip the open qualifiers-teams that consistently perform well in Valve and third-party events will be directly invited to a closed qualifier. There, they’ll compete against teams that enter from an open qualifier.” – Valve wrote in their blog post.
Valve also indicated that they will reveal more details about the Regional Standings process in the coming weeks.
“In the coming weeks we’ll reveal more detail about the new Regional Standings process.”
In addition to the changes, Valve also released a new update to the game, with the introduction of Champions Stickers of the IEM Rio Major 2022. CS:GO fans and players can now purchase the Champions edition of Outsiders’ player autographs.
