Top teams set to clash in opening round at Legends Stage
The first matchups of the IEM Rio Major Legends Stage are set!
The first matches of the IEM Rio Major Legends Stage have been revealed after the conclusion of the Challenger Stage, which 16 teams advanced from. Already in the first round of play in the Legends Stage, CS:GO fans will get a real treat as they get to watch four giants go up against each other.
Team Vitality and Cloud9 secured their spot in the Legends Stage with a 2-3 record, which means they have received lower seeds coming into the Legends Stage. apEX’s troops from Vitality will play s1mple and company, while Cloud9 will meet FaZe Clan in the first round.
The other matchups in the Legends Stage consist of ENCE vs. FURIA, Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. fnatic, Heroic vs. Outsiders, BIG vs. Sprout, Team Spirit vs. Bad News Eagles, and Team Liquid vs. MOUZ.
Just as the Challengers Stage, the Legends Stage will be played in Riocentro venue and will follow the same exact format: a Swiss system. This means that teams will need to win three games to advance to playoffs and lose three to be eliminated from the Major. For ordinary matches, teams will play bo1 games and bo3 games for either advancement or elimination matches.
