Thorin: "The issue is a very touchy one for players"
Flashpoint 2 analyst and CSGO expert Thorin discuss the use of in-game communication
The CSGO expert, whom for many years has had an opinion on the professional Counter-Strike scene, Thorin discuss in-game communication in his latest Youtube video. The topic of usage of in-game communication is as he explains it a very touchy one for the players. However, he explains: "It can also potentially be a "gamechanger" for the analysts and the broadcast if it is handled well."
The prior usage of in-game communication in a broadcasting perspective has been implemented in various ways. For instance, ESL released the in-game communication from participating teams back in 2015 in the form of VOD's. While this was, of course, very interesting to watch and possibly increased many people's understanding of team-communication it also had consequences.
Thorin points out that the release of unfiltered and unedited in-game communication had negative implications both from a political point of view, but also from a strategic point of view. Players were criticized for "trash talking" or being politically incorrect, but also their strategies and flaws were portrayed for everyone to see.
However, he goes on to discuss how in-game communication can in fact have a positive impact on the Counter-Strike scene. He argues that when only accessible for the analysts it can be an amazing tool to understanding different team dynamics. Afterward, the analyst can choose to portray different points, regarding the topic, at the broadcasting desk.
Thorin states that he thinks, when used correctly, it can be an incredible tool and that he will try to implement access to in-game communication in a positive way when being an analyst at the Flashpoint 2 tournament.
