Sweden win IESF World Championship 2023
The Swedes took down Germany in the Grand Final.
This year's IESF World Championship in Romania ended with Swedish joy after a perfect 8-0 run at the tournament.
The Swedes fielded a strong team with several familiar names such as Nicolas 'Plopski' Gonzalez Zamora, Erik 'ztr' Gustafsson, and the former Fnatic AWP'er Jack 'Jackinho' Ström Mattsson. In the group stage, Sweden strolled through Poland, Australis, Belgium, Guatemala, and Mauritius, before they embarked on the playoffs. Here Romania, Serbia, and ultimately Germany were no match.
In the Grand Final, the Swedes had to go to overtime to win Germany's map pick of Mirage though. Marcel 'hyped' Köhn did everything he could to secure the Germans their own map pick, but after it was lost the game was practically over with Sweden plowing through the defense of Germany on Inferno leading 12-3 at the break. 19-17, 16-9 was the score of the final, where Sweden secured themselves $50,000 in first prize, while Germany had to settle for $30,000 for coming second.
