Spirit upsets BIG and qualifies for IEM Katowice
The number four in the world is one match away from elimination.
For the second time this year, Berlin International Gaming (BIG) has lost a match to Spirit. The Russian underdog once again bested BIG in the upper bracket quarter-final at the IEM Katowice Play-in. The victory secures Spirit a spot at the main tournament at IEM Katowice.
The advantage for Spirit was established on a good T-side on Overpass. With an 11-4 lead they did not let go and took home the map. Leonid 'chopper' Vishnyakov was instrumental for the Russians with a solid performance.
BIG picked Mirage as the second map of the match. Once again "chopper" and Spirit started phenomenally and cruised home a 10-5 lead at halftime. In the second half, BIG was close to making a comeback but was denied after some intense rounds in the end.
While Spirit is ready for the main tournament at IEM Katowice, BIG will have to win an elimination match tomorrow against the winner of fnatic and MIBR to qualify.
BIG - Spirit 0-2 (11-16, 13-16)
