Spirit takes down FaZe to claim Shanghai Major title
Counter-Strike prodigy Danil “donk” Kryshkovets delivered yet another masterclass performance as he became the youngest Major winner in history.
The Russian dragons from Spirit have been crowned as the champions of the Perfect World Shanghai Major, after beating FaZe 2-1 in today’s Grand Final.
The remarkable achievement marks the first-ever Major title for Spirit, who handed Finn “karrigan” Andersen and his men a commanding defeat this Sunday.
Throughout the grand final action, Spirit showed no signs of nerves or stress, despite going up against a much more experienced FaZe squad – with a core that has a Major title under their belt.
How the final went down
The map veto saw the Grand Final start on Nuke. Picked by karrigan and FaZe, the opener was theirs to conquer. However, that memo was not delivered to Boris “magixx” Vorobiev, who completely took over the server, dismantling FaZe round after round.
magixx’s heroics led Spirit to a confident 13-8 score going into the second map.
On Ancient, FaZe did what they are so famous for: stepping up when things looked most dangerous.
Especially Robin “ropz” Kool made sure Spirit knew FaZe wouldn’t go down without a fight, with the Estonian rifler sending the match into a third deciding map, posting an immaculate 1.89 Rating on Ancient.
In the decider on Dust2, Spirit came out flying from the start, setting up a rock-solid defense on the CT-side, where they bullied FaZe time after time. And unsurprisingly, donk topped the leaderboard with yet another dominant half of Counter-Strike.
But FaZe never gives up – a known fact by now. Through a miraculous run, they nearly forced overtime, despite Spirit reaching map point early on. However, in the end, Spirit proved too strong, winning Dust2 13-11 after an outstanding battle.
