Smooya: "The amount of death threats i get when i lose a game is disgusting"
Everything isn't as glamorous as it might seem when pros are competing on the big stages
Perhaps more surprising to many than with other types of public figures, celebrities, and sports stars, being a CS:GO professional isn't all fun and games. At times the profession can be very taxing, demanding, and constraining on the individual players themselves. From dealing with the hectic schedule, loads of uncertainty, and the constant pressure from fans or 'haters' across the globe, CS:GO pros experience many hardships that come with being a public figure in the world of e-sport.
RivalryCSGO asked various CS:GO pros about the worst thing that comes with being a professional player. Whilst the answers varied it seemed as if every player had experienced some sort of hardship in regards to their profession. One of these players is Owen "smooya" Butterfield. When asked the question he explained how he had experienced something as serious as death threats numerous times:
"The amount of death threats me and my family get when I lose a game is fucking disgusting. When I was playing at an event [...] I had a guy, we lost the game, and he sent me a picture of me outside the hotel, saying that he was going to fucking kill me basically. It was the craziest shit that I have ever experienced."
To hear more about the terrible experiences "smooya" has had with crazy 'haters' and how the remaining pros answered the question, you can watch the entire series of interviews down below:
