Shock news! device out for remainder of 2024
Huge blow for Astralis, as Nicolai “device” Reedtz reveals he's stepping down from competition until next year due to health issues.
In shocking news, Astralis has informed that their star AWPer Nicolai “device” Reedtz will be sidelined for the rest of the year. In his place, Astralis will play with Alexander "br0" Bro who’s currently benched on the Danish team.
That means the 29-year-old Dane won’t travel along with his teammates for the upcoming Major qualifier in Shanghai, China.
Stress and health issues
The reason for his benching is due to “a recurrence of stress-related health challenges,” device reveals in a lengthy post on X.
device describes how the health issues began to occur when travelling to BLAST World Final in Singapore. Troubles sleeping, extreme fatigue and an irregular heartbeat was some of the concerns, he explains.
You can read an extract from the post down below.
It started when traveling to Singapore. The first nights I was having issues with sleep and I wouldn’t be getting more than a few hours each night. As the week progressed I would progressively get worse symptoms including less sleep, cramps, heart palpitations and extreme fatigue. I hoped and expected these symptoms would get better as soon as I got home, but I have to face the reality that I’m still not at a point where it’s realistic for me to compete.
This season has been tough and I have not been prioritizing myself enough. Honestly I can’t tell if I feel better or worse having faced a similar situation before. I know what it takes to get back and how amazing it feels on the other side. On the other hand I know how hard this process is and how much it wears on my mind.
Most of all this hurts the most knowing I’m letting down the team and our fans in the most important part of the season. These are the people that are fueling my passion to return and having to disappoint them is heartbreaking for me.
No device in Shanghai…
Today’s sad news means that Astralis will have to head to the RMR with a significantly weakened squad, missing the firepower from device. Luckily, Astralis already have bro - a potent player – sitting on the bench who's ready to step in immediately.
With the absence of device, every logic would say that Casper “cadiaN” Møller will return to the AWP, being a role he played throughout the vast majority of his career.
At the Major qualifier, Astralis is placed in Europe RMR B and will kick off their campaign against 9 Pandas on the 21st of November.
Astralis' lineup for the upcoming RMR and Major in Shanghai:
Martin "stavn" Lund
Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard
Victor "Staehr" Staehr
Casper "cadiaN" Møller
Alexander "br0" Bro

Casper "ruggah" Due (coach)
