Overpass: The most broken map of CS:GO
Overpass was introduced in the Winter Offensive update along with Cobblestone.
Overpass:
The map Overpass was implemented in 2013 alongside Cobblestone. Overpass is the infamous map on which the ’olofboost’ took place and has been part of the Map pool since 2014.
Overpass is unique, in that it is the only competitive CS:GO map that wasn’t introduced prior to Global Offensive. The uniqueness continues, as the map has the CT’s spawn on the inside of A-bombsite. Because of this, rotations are fast and efficient. Overpass is fairly CT sided, as the T’s have to take multiple areas on the map before they can actually push A-bombsite.
Overpass’ changes were mainly made on the A-bombsite and the toilets area. Finding a way to make the A-bombsite interesting but also balanced was perhaps one of the hardest issues for Valve to overcome. Even though the map can be quite CT-sided, it’s also one of the most diverse maps in the Active Duty Map Pool. Both sides have a lot of different ways to play the map and make strategies.
Historical plays
The olofboost that changed CS:GO happened on Overpass.
Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer’s boost is a crucial piece of history for the CS:GO scene. On that day the community lost something, gained something, and saw something. The boost is a reminder of the power of ingenuity, the pressure faced by esports athletes, and the grey area between what is possible and what is acceptable.
The incident happened after the Swedish squad from fnatic attended the DreamHack Winter 2014 event. Fnatic managed to pass the group stage but struggled in the quarter-finals against the Frenchmen from Team LDLC. The first map of the series went in the favor of the French squad, and olofmeister and company managed to answer back on the second. However, fnatic was behind 13-2 on the decider of Overpass, and things started to change in the second half.
Fnatic made a boost on top of the A-site, where olofmeister could see the entire ‘Water’ area outside short on B as well as the part outside ‘Monster’. Therefore, fnatic managed to come back and take down LDLC without losing a single round. After the match, this ‘olofboost’ created a controversy, and it was decided that the boost was illegal, which resulted in cancelation of the match. The Swedish squad was offered to replay the last map, but they decided to forfeit and got eliminated from the tournament.
