Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP) has announced the benching of their captain and in-game leader, Alejandro “alex” Masanet. In his place, the Swedish organization will promote Gareth "⁠MisteM⁠" Ries, a 22-year-old talent from NIP’s academy team, Young Ninjas.

The decision comes after a challenging period for NIP, during which the team failed to qualify for several key tournaments, including the BLAST Fall Final, IEM Rio, and ESL Challenger Atlanta.

In a press release, NIP explained the decision:

- While we continue to believe alex is a great person and leader, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that his IGL profile isn’t the right fit for this new roster. This decision was not made lightly, but we feel it is essential to put the team in the best position as we continue on our mission to make NIP CS legendary again.

With MisteM now promoted, NIP has already found its new in-game leader. MisteM, who has been leading the Young Ninjas since January, is now tasked with guiding the main roster through some of the toughest challenges ahead.

One of the most significant challenges for MisteM and NIP is the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) in November, where they will battle for a spot at the prestigious Perfect World Shanghai Major.

In addition to the roster shake-up, NIP has also made changes to its coaching staff. Fredrik "slap" Junbrant will step down as assistant coach, with Young Ninjas coach Daniel “sprayxd” Kogan taking over the position.
