The attending teams at IEM Katowice and its superstar players have been on a 4-day competition break after the group stage was completed Sunday evening. 

At a press conference on Wednesday this week, we asked Astralis players Emil “Magisk” Reif and Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander about this 4-day break between the Group Stage and the Playoffs, and whether they see it as an advantage or a hindrance.

Magisk starts off by saying that he’s very pleased with the format, as he believes it both makes the narrative more exciting but how it also sets up ideal conditions for the teams.

“I think it’s a very good thing and it’s definitely something we love as a team.

I think it works as a great build-up. You have the time to tell a story, you have the time to make up hype, and we also have the time to rest up. But most importantly you have the opportunity to try to improve on your performances from the Group Stage.” The 22-year old rifler said.

For Magisk and Astralis the story will have to be a comeback story, owing to their devastating 16-1 loss to Spirit 

Astralis captain and IGL, gla1ve agree with his teammate in the way that he also sees the break as a good possibility for preparation, but also that it makes event more important.  

“I like it as well, as it makes the tournament feel bigger and more prestigious when you do it like this.”

gla1ve and Magisk will be in action this Friday when Astralis take upon the well-playing Virtus.pro roster at the quarterfinals of IEM Katowice. The match is set to begin at 18:30 (CET), with the winner sealing a spot in the semifinals against Liquid.
