Lackluster s1mple return at BLAST Premier Spring Showdown
The king of CS:GO made his first competitive CS2 appearance last night.
After a 132-day break from competitive Counter-Strike, Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev returned to the server in the opening round of BLAST Premier Spring Showdown. The Ukrainian represented Team Falcons on a loan deal from Natus Vincere.
On paper, Metizport was supposed to be a comfortable opponent for the ambitious Saudi-backed organization. On Mirage everything went according to the script with Emil "Magisk" Reif delivering yet another impressive performance leading his team to a 13-9 win.
Overpass however was a near disaster for Falcons, who could not get anything going against the young Swedes from Metizport, who dominated the map. Linus 'nilo' Bergman and Adam "adamb" Ångström are two of the players from the roster that we have seen floating around the top 10 list of highest-rated players of 2024, and on Overpass the two Swedes showed why. Metizport won the map 13-4 before heading onto Vertigo.
For the just second time in a competitive match, we saw Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev play a game of Vertigo! An astonishing fact! In a nail-biter of an ending to the match, it was the young Swedes that made the last push to win the match 13-11. Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev finished the match with a 0.94 rating with 38-49 in K-D.
