IEM Global challenge will be held online due to COVID-19
ESL has confirmed that the $500,000 event will be hosted online instead of a LAN event as the coronavirus pandemic continues to lockdown countries across Europe.
Sadly, we’ll still not see a LAN event yet, after ESL announced the decision of scrapping their plans with IEM Global Challenge to be held as a LAN event. The tournament will still take place and be held between December 15 – December 20 with a $500,000 prize pool, featuring the best teams in Europa and NA.
“In light of the rising infection numbers of Covid-19 across Europe, we have decided to move the tournament online. We would have loved to have brought everyone together for this tournament, but we are obligated to act responsibly towards the players and the staff working at our event.” said the vice-president of pro gaming at ESL, Michal “Carmac” Blicharz”
The event will close out the year and will count towards the Intel Grand Slam.
