How to Determine the Rarity of CS2 Skins
Rarity plays a big role in how much value a skin has in CS2, and it affects its value in a big way.
A common skin that gets dropped a lot will obviously have a lower value than a skin that is only unboxed every few months or comes out of a skin pack every once in a while.
In simple terms, it is a matter of supply and demand. In this article, we'll take a quick look at the different CS2 skin rarity tiers and talk about the factors that can affect skin rarity.
What Is CS2 Skin Rarity?
As a cosmetic item, skins in CS2 change the appearance of a weapon without altering any of its characteristics. You can acquire skins in CS2 in a number of different ways, each of which is explained below. There are various ways in which you can get skins, including drops in your weekly care package, opening cases, and getting skins from operations when they are taking place. You can even craft skins yourself or trade for them, of course.
A whole system is used to classify skins in CS2. Overall, all skins can be divided into eight types based on their rarity/quality. The naked eye can see a skin's rarity by looking at its color—the color of the skin's name.
● Common: Consumer Grade, Base Grade. White.
● Uncommon: Industrial Grade. Light Blue.
● Rare: Mil-Spec, High Grade. Blue.
● Mythical: Restricted, Remarkable. Purple.
● Legendary: Classified, Exotic. Pink.
● Ancient: Covert, Extraordinary. Red.
● Exceedingly Rare: Rare Special, Gloves, Knives. Gold.
● Immortal: Contraband.
But there are several nuances.
The contraband tier is technically a skin rarity tier, but it only houses one skin—M4A4 Howl. Since it has been completely removed from the game, except for the items that already exist, there will never be any possibility of dropping or creating a copy of it. This happened because of the copyright infringement that completely ruined the popularity of this skin.
As a second point, skins of Excessively Rare quality/rareness are limited to gloves and knives and do not include any weapon skins.
What Determines A Skin's Rarity/Quality?
There is a difference between each skin in terms of rarity and quality. Fundamentally, it is only a matter of the probability that it will be received when you open a case. It is a fact that the higher the rarity of a skin, the lower the chances of it being dropped from the case. Among the rarest skins, there is a chance that they will be available one in 100 times or even less! So, skins of Covert or Classified rarity/quality usually cost much more than Consumer Goods.
CS2 Case Odds:
● Mil-Spec (Blue) 79.92%
● Restricted (Purple) 15.98%
● Classified (Pink) 3.2%
● Covert (Red) 0.64%
● Special Item (Knife, Gloves) 0.26%
Furthermore, skin rarity has an impact on Trade-Up contracts. The idea behind a Trade Up Contract is that 10 skins of the same rarity level are exchanged for one skin with a rarity of a higher level. This is a mechanic in the game that makes this possible. A properly drafted Trade Up Contract can be an effective way for you to get rid of your Consumer Goods, and it may be beneficial for your Steam inventory value.
StatTrakmode
Every time a weapon is unboxed from a case, there is a 10% chance that it will be StatTrak. StatTrak weapons basically count how many kills you have made with the weapon (only on human players; bots do not count). As for guns, this is done by adding a little digital module to the weapon itself. On knives, the kills made with the weapon are scratched into the blade.
There is no difference between StatTrak weapons and non-StatTrak weapons in terms of their performance in the game. As a result, they're usually much more expensive than regular skins due to the fact that they are much rare, so you can sell CS2(CS:GO) skins for a higher price if they have StatTrak mode. A notable exception can be knives since people don't like to see scratches on their knife finish. As a consequence, StatTrak knives are generally not that much more expensive than their regular counterparts.
How rare are knives in CS2?
Knives are classified in CS2 as Rare Skins, which basically means that they make up the list of the rare items available to get in the game. As a result, there is a very low chance of getting a knife out of the case: approximately 0.26% or one knife in 384 attempts. There are even some knives that are so rare that they don't even exist in the game yet! The term "exceptional rarity" refers to that kind of item.
Final Thoughts
A number of factors contribute to a skin's true rarity, including its availability, particular pattern, whether the skin is StatTnot, and so on. The best way to determine how rare a specific skin is to have a decent knowledge of the CS2 skins market and take into account the larger picture.
