Was David "frozen" Čerňanský robbed with only being ranked 12th on HLTV’s Top 20 list of the best players of 2023?
If you ask some people in the industry, yes! But if you ask the man himself, it’s a different matter.
- People are saying that I got robbed with my ranking, but I believe if I really deserved to be Top 10, then I would have been there.
- Next year I just got to make sure there’s no doubt. I won’t say 2023 is a year that I’m satisfied with, I just think for the next year that I have to improve my game and be better, a very unselfish frozen said to us at the media day of BLAST Premier Spring Groups.
We have had the chance to speak with the new FaZe rifler before the start of next week’s BLAST event, which will be his second tournament after his arrival from MOUZ in December. Here we discussed his decision to leave MOUZ to
- After more than four years in MOUZ I was looking for something different for my career - new ways and new motivation. And I couldn’t imagine a better timing or team than FaZe to join a better team where I can fulfil the goals that I was looking for. “
Did you feel that you couldn’t take the next step in your development in MOUZ?
- I wouldn’t put it that way. It was something for myself. I have been on MOUZ for so long, where we have been a winning team but also having rough periods for a long time. I was really just driven by getting back to a title-contending team and having this pressure of needing to perform. That was something I was looking for.

Reuniting with ropz and karrigan
“I think it’s been a long time coming,” ropz explained in an interview with BLAST last year when talking about frozen’s transfer to FaZe. Something, we asked frozen about and whether he felt it the same way.
- I’m friends with Robin [ropz] and Finn [karrigan], so of course we have been talking over time. But there are also contracts, so it wasn’t that crystal clear for me. It was only towards the end of the year that I got into deep conversations with FaZe. However, over the years in MOUZ I never had this thought like “Let’s get rid of tournaments so I can join FaZe”. I was always 100% focused at every event.
Can you put some words on your partnership and relation with ropz?
- I’m not sure if you can call it a partnership because even when we played together in MOUZ, he was always a lurk and I was on the other side of the map. So, it’s not like we’re meeting up on sites in the game. But somehow it just ended up with us being… you can call it “carries”. Now that’s a little different, with there being five players who can shoot and perform. It’s not only about me and ropz, it’s more about the bigger picture and working together as a team.
FaZe will start their campaign at BLAST Premier Spring Groups on Wednesday when they square up against GamerLegion in the opening round. The rest of Group C consists of Liquid and a donk-less Spirit team.
- I think we have a decent group, but we shouldn’t underestimate any of the teams in our group – not even Spirit, despite them playing with two stand-ins. They could still be dangerous and the same goes for GamerLegion. I don’t know what to expect from the new Liquid lineup, but for ourselves the goal is to qualify for a playoff spot, frozen concluded.
