From 30 to 24? Will CS2 cut down the maximum number of rounds in a match?
A new update to the CS2 limited test sees the number of rounds reduced.
Competitive matches have been disabled in the latest update to the limited test of CS2. In the codes, however, a new update to the game sees a significant change to the rules of a competitive match. It is the Twitter-user Aquarius, who has discovered the changes.
The first to 13 rounds format is known from other esports such as Valorant. Nothing official has been said from Valve, and in general, we can not be sure of anything before the release of the full game. A change from the current format of first to 16 rounds could be a way of reducing the match length which has been one of the main criticisms of Counter-Strike as a good product for broadcasting, where it is not unusual to see a match going three plus hours.
The question remains if the change in the coding indicates a new match format, and whether that change will be followed up with a rebuild of the economics of the game. With only 12 rounds in a half, there will be even more focus on the pistol rounds going forward.
Valve has previously stated, that CS2 will be launched in the "Summer of 2023", which gives the game developer a half month to finish the game before the definition of a summer runs out.
