ESIC issues sanctions against 35 players for betting-related offenses
The Esports Integrity Commission has also announced that there is a high possibility that it will issue match-fixing charges.
The Esports watchdog group has banned 35 players for periods ranging from 12 months to 5 years and will continue to investigate further offenses in Australia, NA, and Europe in cooperation with law enforcement.
Sanctions that have been issued in the release of today are not for match-fixing but for betting on an individual’s own team and against it. However, the ESIC states that there is a high possibility that it will issue match-fixing charges arising from the ongoing investigations that will potentially include some of the players that have been sanctioned today.
ESIC created a sanctions matrix with five levels to ensure the bans were “proportional to the offenses”.
Betting on matches: 12 months
Betting on own games: 24 months
Aggravated betting over 10 matches: 36 months
Betting against team: 48 months
Aggravated betting against own team: 60 months
