Danish TV2 quit Counter-Strike broadcasts
The CS:GO transmissions have not been profitable for the Danish TV station.
The news broke out today after a meeting with the employees on the Danish TV station today. Jacob "Pimp" Winneche and Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen are some of the household names, that has been working with the TV station. The management of the Danish TV2 channel explained the lack of exclusivity as one of the primary reasons why it is difficult for mainstream TV stations to capitalize on a product like CS:GO with Twitch as a competitor.
- If it is to be a more classic broadcaster like us, we must have some form of exclusivity. Because it's hard to compete with, even though our skilled experts and hosts have given it personality, which was our way of trying to refine it, Frederik Lauesen, Head of Sports on TV2 told the Danish media magazine Journalisten.
The downfall of Astralis in recent years has also contributed to the decision that needed to be taken after an overall budget cut for the entire TV station had been announced.
- The huge euphoria surrounding Astralis and the other good Danish teams is no longer there, and in that light, it is a little bit less interesting. Things go up and down in showbiz, Lauesen says.
TV2 will end the Counter-Strike broadcast at the end of the year a few months before the Copenhagen Major in March 2024.
