CS: GO Women’s Tournament Being Expanded

The International Esports Federation (IESF) has announced an expansion of their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament for women, increasing the number of teams from four to ten.

The global popularity of CS; GO means that there are now many tournaments held across the planet, but there are still some areas where it could grow further. Women’s tournaments are an example of where this game could gain more ground, which is why the latest news regarding it is so important.

What Has Changed?

The International Esports Federation (IESF) has recently confirmed that their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament for women will be expanded from four to ten teams this year. This is part of the World Esports Championships Finals which will be held at Iași, Romania from August 24 to September 4.

Vlad Marinescu is the IESF President and he announced that they’re “thrilled” to expand the version of the tournament for female players. He pointed out that this is a reflection of the fact that they’ve been improving in terms of making esports more inclusive and that they’re looking forward to seeing what the top women’s teams bring to the event.

Qualifiers for the World Esports Championships Finals are to be played between May and June, at which point the ten best-performing women’s teams will each secure their right to play in Romania later this year. GODSENT and Dignitas Fe are among the most successful female esports teams of recent times and it’ll be interesting to see which others emerge in 2023 thanks to this change.

How Games Appeal to More People Now

The growing diversity of the gaming market helps to explain why different games now appeal to more people than ever before. This look at the games most enjoyed by women gamers covers The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and the Zero Escape series of titles, all of which are equally popular among male gamers.

In terms of games designed specifically to appeal to women, Rhianna Pratchett worked as a lead writer on 2013’s Tomb Raider and 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider. These games are credited with rebooting the series by giving Lara Croft a tougher and more realistic image as a female adventurer, moving it away from the exaggerated and unrealistic approach to Lara’s image seen before then.

We can also see in the casino games sector how variety is used to appeal to every type of player. This list of fast payout casinos covers the likes of LeoVegas and Jackpot City. You should definitely check it out to discover their welcome bonuses and diverse games covering slots and table games. We can see how these casinos appeal to different markets with the example of the Rich Wilde and Cat Wilde slots by Play ´n GO, with this series varying between male and female lead characters.

This inclusivity is likely to increase, with many of the upcoming games to be released in 2024 set to feature strong women in leading roles. As for the CS: GO tournament, in the future gamers may look back on the 2023 event as being a turning point when women gamers started to move onto a more equal footing with their male counterparts.
